Job Summary

The Supervisor HWSC ensures Hillside Work Scholarship Connection’s mission, policies, and core model are implemented successfully in their assigned school(s) through the performance of the Youth Advocates (YAs). This position develops, leads, and inspires the YAs to meet the student’s needs through delivery of the core model, after school programming, summer programming, and family engagement activities. The HWSC Supervisor oversees the efficiency of the day-to-day operations of the HWSC program including staff scheduling, hiring, training, and the safety of youth, families, and staff.

Essential Job functions

  • Ensure that core services, after school programming, summer programming, post-secondary support, and family engagement activities are delivered and tracked accurately and efficiently.

  • Connect and build strong relationships with all school-based personnel (i.e. principals, administrators, teachers, students, community partners, and support center staff) and utilize connections to leverage resources required to generate positive outcomes for HW-SC students.

  • Delegate, monitor, and provide support to YAs to ensure services outlined by the core service model are received by eligible students.

  • Re-assign work to YAs to cover absences or gaps in caseload coverage to ensure all goals established for student core services, after school programming, summer programming, post-secondary, and family engagement activities are met.

  • Coordinate YA staff schedules to meet the needs of the program (i.e. family interactions, after school / weekend events) while minimizing costs and controlling overtime expenses.

  • Review and analyze reports generated by Business Intelligence. Identify areas and conduct gap analysis where assigned school team’s performance does not meet or exceed expectations and coordinate action plans to improve individual and/or team performance.

  • Conduct one-to-one meetings with YAs, parent contacts, mentor contacts, teacher interactions, IGP completion, enrichment attendance, tutoring referrals and receipt of tutoring, enrollment goals, wait list and capacity.

  • Effectively manage expenses against budgetary parameters.

  • Ensure HW-SC students at their school who are Youth Employment Training Academy (YETA) eligible are connected to the YETA program as well as to the Post-Secondary Support Plan programming and the appropriate resources for both.

  • While this job description covers many aspects of the role, employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Provides staff with coaching, training and opportunities for growth to improve their skills. Treats staff fairly and consistently. Shares accountability when delegating and involves staff in setting their performance goals.

  • Governance: Ensures Hillside policies, procedures and all applicable governmental laws/regulations/guidelines are followed. Makes decisions and has authority to implement decisions in conjunction with the leadership structure of the given area of responsibility.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Human Services, Business or related field required.

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in human services, childhood or youth development, student mentoring, workforce development, coaching adolescent youth, or related field required.

  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience required.

Special Requirements

  • Unrestricted, valid NYS driver’s license with a clean driving record and minimum insurance coverage that meets agency standards.

  • Possesses intermediate technology skills (e-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool.

  • Project management skills managing complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and program growth.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply services from the school site and community resources.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply theoretical and practical adolescent development and positive youth development and recognize signs and symptoms of students heading at risk (decisions, patterns of behavior, negative peer relationships) and ability to address with appropriate interventions for student.

  • Must be able to work a variable scheduling including evenings and weekends

  • Must be able to drive to and from multiple work/school sites during your work shift

  • The following physical demands are required:

  • Occasional sitting (up to 4 hours)

  • Occasional standing (up to 1 hour)

  • Occasional walking (up to 2.5 hours)

  • Occasional driving (up to 8 hours)

  • Continuous balancing (up to 8 hours)

  • Occasional balancing, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching forward or down, reaching overhead, running, and twisting (up to 2.5 hours)

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. (staff may be required to move and lift desks, set up tables, large screens, backdrops, etc.), 10-15 lbs. on a daily basis

  • Carrying up to 55 lbs. approximately 10-100 ft., 10-15 lbs. on a daily basis

  • Manual dexterity is required, including the frequent ability to grasp in both hands and continuous use of fine manipulation skills in both hands (approximately 1-2.5 hrs.)

  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, gases or chemicals is apparent.

  • Protective clothing or equipment required: Close toed shoes; Protective Shields, Universal Precaution PPE, Gloves for toileting and food preparation

  • Ability to change positions as needed

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • May be required to climb stairs as necessary

  • May be required to transport students to community events or home sites that may occasionally expose employee to cigarette smoke, cleaning supplies, recreational marijuana, pets etc.

    $23.33 Minimum pay rate, $33.25 Maximum pay rate, based on experience.
