Crouse Hospital Respiratory Equipment Technician in Syracuse, New York

As a Respiratory Equipment Technician you will have the opportunity to assist our Respiratory Therapists and develop your skills with the opportunity to work in our Regional Level 4 NICU, Level 3 Trauma Center Emergency Department, Adult Medical ICU, Adult Neuro ICU, Sleep Center, Catheterization laboratory, and Acute Care Medical/Surgical Units.
Schedule:7:00am-3:30pm 11:00am-7:30pm 3:00pm-11:30PM w/rotating weekends, holidays & other shifts assigned
Pay Rate: $15.50-$28.05/hour
Responsibilities:
Consistently maintains an inventory of disposable and non-disposable respiratory care supplies in the respiratory care department inventory area and storage carts, cabinets, and closets in all patient areas. Processes supply orders from off-site facilities.
Cleans, disinfects , and assembles life support equipment and other respiratory care equipment with the equipment washer and/or manually in accordance with existing policies and procedures.
Properly assembles and packages CPAP set-ups, ventilator circuits, resuscitation bags, nebulizers and special assemblies prior to patient use.
Competency performs electrical safety checks on patient-owned or rented respiratory care equipment during evening hours or weekends, in the absence of a Clinical Engineer.
Accurately documents completion of electrical safety checks on time sheets and on BiPAP clipboard, when appropriate. Consistently maintains records on emergency equipment.
Professionally completes operation verification procedures (user verification tests) on all ventilators and associated equipment prior to patient use. Accurately documents completion of tests on time sheet, equipment device, and in work order file.
Routinely checks for adequate supply of all medical gases in cylinders and in bulk storage and, if necessary, changes medical gas cylinders. Proactively provides medical gases to inpatients and ancillary department areas and enforces fules and regulations regarding safe handling of medical gases.
Routinely monitors medical gas pipeline pressure and promptly notifies department leadership of any unusual variances.
Provides assistance to Medical Gas Services during medical gas shutdowns and testing of medical gas systems.
Promptly responds to calls for the delivery of medical gas cylinders, respiratory care disposable/non-disposable supplies.
Accurately enters data and work order notes into the TMS system.
Performs environmental cultures on equipment, as needed. Monitors equipment washers and performs weekly cleaning procedures. Ensures refrigerator temperatures are correct and monitors levels of disinfecting chemicals.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum of six (6) months of prior medical and/or respiratory related equipment maintenance in an acute or sub-acute hospital, homecare company, or educational setting.
