Job Summary:

The Research Support Specialist will support research in the MiNDS laboratory by conducting molecular and histological experiments in postmortem brain aimed at elucidating the molecular and cellular pathology of schizophrenia. They will also perform analyses of blood biomarkers from living patient cohorts. The duties include preparing mammalian brain tissue for histology by sectioning, inventorying, anatomical matching and organizing brain sections for analysis and using brain homogenates to extract DNA, RNA and protein. They will be expected to characterize the quantity and quality of extracted material and to perform follow-on analyses. These include Western blot, immunoprecipitation, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and microscopy. They will measure levels of target transcripts in brain and blood using RT-PCR. They will perform data entry and manage the clinical database including participant demographics, clinical profiles, brain scans and biomarker levels. They will analyze data and aid in preparation of figures and tables for manuscripts. They will be expected to maintain a detailed and up-to date laboratory notebook and to execute daily laboratory duties that include maintaining cleanliness of lab & equipment, maintain solutions, ordering and stocking of lab supplies, freezer, (tissue and sample) antibodies and reagents.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

One to two years of previous lab experience preferred.

Weekdays and as needed
