Instructor - Physics

The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) in Syracuse, NY is hiring an instructor to teach introductory Physics 1 and 2 to undergraduate engineering and science students. This is a full-time, academic-year (10-month), tenure-track position with primary duties related to instruction. Historically, SUNY-ESF students have taken Physics courses at Syracuse University (PHY101, PHY102, PHY211/PHY221 and PHY212/PHY222); SUNY ESF is seeking an instructor to offer equivalents to these courses. The instructor would ramp up to teach 3 classes per semester and coordinate and teach laboratory sessions. This position will be part of the Department of Environmental Resources Engineering but will serve students in multiple majors at the college including Environmental Resources Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science and Environmental Health. The workload for this position is 90% teaching and 10% college and professional service.

Starting Salary: $65,000 - $70,000, DOQ

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate Degree in a related field (Ph.D., M.S., M.Ed.)

  • Evidence of innovative and effecting teaching

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degrees in Physics or related field

  • Experience teaching introductory Physics courses

  • Ability to teach to varying learning styles and academic backgrounds

  • Experience fostering an inclusive environment, working with people from diverse backgrounds, and incorporating diverse perspectives in teaching

  • Interest and experience with environmental issues

  • Evidence of collegiality and dedication to professional service
