SUNY Upstate Medical University Per Diem Secretarial Float in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Performs secretarial duties under general supervision including but not limited to: -Scheduling appointments, relaying messages, requesting refills on patient's behalf, scanning and filing in a fast paced environment.

--Regularly answers the hunt line

--Routinely answers calls prior to voicemail activation

--Communicates appropriate and approved information to patients. Does not give medical advice without MD directions.

-Provides practice support which could include switchboard coverage, patient check out, obtaining authorizations and various other practice assigned tasks.

--Knowledgeable in all aspects of insurance authorizations. Obtains necessary referrals/authorizations from various insurance carriers as needed. Schedules outside imaging, MRIs, CTs, when necessary. Ensures authorizations are obtained prior to patient appointments.

-Works closely with patients, physicians, residents, clinic, management and secretarial staff to facilitate efficient communication among all parties.

-Utilizes knowledge of medical processes and office procedures at all times.

-Effectively communicates and accurately documents via Epic EHR system relaying messages to Physicians and Patient Care team.

-Ability to provide secretarial coverage (desk, phone, message, surgery scheduling coverage) during planned secretarial time away from the office. Familiarity with section co-workers duties when called upon for coverage. Capacity and willingness to work with & for others in section.

--Maintains accurate schedule in EPIC. Blocking time where appropriate and inserting add on slots when MD is covering.

--Reviews surgery case requests and assures that the orders are fully accurate and all necessary information is provided to the surgery schedulers.

--Reviews work queues daily for completion of orders, pre-ops and misc. paperwork. --Completes necessary orders/requisitions as indicated in patient notes and by MDs protocol.

--Work queues are kept current with all orders worked within 5-7 days of entry.

--Accurately prepares temp chart, assuring that note/report/test results from prior visit is in the temp chart. Routinely has charts available 3 days prior to visit, and also includes patients added on once charts are prepped. -Assists with special projects as needed.

-Other duties as needed and assigned by Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school or equivalent and two years of directly related medical secretary/office experience. Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

EMR and Orthopedic office experience preferred.

shifts vary - per diem
