MANAGER OF MEDICAL IMAGING SERVICES

DEFINITION

Under guidance of the Director of Medical Imaging and Respiratory Services, plans, organizes, directs and manages the day to day operation of the Medical Imaging Department.

The Manager; recommends, develops, implements and evaluates goals,

objectives, policies, and procedures related to Medical Imaging; provides staff support to department supervisors in CT, X-ray, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, MRI, and Support Services.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Responsible for administering all non-physician aspects of Imaging Services.

Services in consultation with staff radiologists.

DUTIES

  1. Organize, supervise and monitor practices and procedures of the Medical Imaging Department; ensure all applicable guidelines for accreditation, quality assurance and safe patient care are met

  2. Participate in the development of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities within the Medical Imaging Department

  3. Act as liaison to Radiologists group

  4. Prepare cost estimates and justifications for budget recommendations; monitor and control expenditures to ensure the accomplishment of objectives within the approved budget

  5. Maintain an effective working relationship with a variety of organizations, including medical, nursing and clinical staff at St. Joseph’s Health.

  6. Select, supervise, train and evaluate clinical, professional, technical and clerical staff.

  7. Organize available staff in such a way as to maximize quality patient care. Develop work schedules, on call assignments, and other methods of assuring adequate staff coverage to maximize productivity.

  8. Interpret and apply departmental administrative and personnel policies to the Medical Imaging Services.

  9. Prepare a variety of reports and statistics relating to service activities

  10. Approve all payroll documents including those dealing with sick leave, vacation, overtime, on-call pay, and related matters

  11. Serve as department representative on numerous tasks forces and committees

  12. Perform related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Principles, practices, trends and technological developments in the area of medical imaging services

  2. Clinical practices, procedures and techniques in the area of medical imaging

  3. Laws, regulations, accreditation standards and safety guidelines, related to all areas of Medical Imaging.

  4. Principles of budget preparation and monitoring

  5. Principles of personnel training, supervision and evaluation

  6. The occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with imaging

Working knowledge of:

  1. The care and operation of imaging equipment

  2. Current computer software such as Microsoft Office, including email and calendar usage

  3. Working knowledge of McKesson PACS and EPIC Radiant preferred

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

  2. Satisfactory completion of formal imaging training in an AMA approved school and meets requirements for American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board, and New York State Department of Health Licensure.

  3. A minimum of two years of increasingly responsible supervisory duties in an imaging department

  4. Current BLS certification

  5. Lean or Lean Six Sigma certification preferred or relevant project management experience

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

The physical and sensory abilities required for this classification include:

  1. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate imaging equipment, operate a computer, and to handle supplies/medications

  2. Mobility, flexibility, gross body coordination, and dexterity sufficient to work in a typical hospital environment

  3. Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time (meeting/event attendance, or at a computer).

  4. Vision, hearing, and voice typical for a hospital/ office environment

  5. Ability to speak clearly and with the volume required to carry on clear conversations in person, over the phone and at public events

  6. Ability to work with and around potentially hazardous materials and disease

Salary- $86,216-$129,376
