Job Title: Janitor - Residential Services

Reports to: Residence Director

FLSA: Full Time; Non-Exempt

Work Location: Downtown YMCA

Salary Range: $15.00/hour

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

Position Summary:

This position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization. Under the direction of Residence Management, the Residence Janitor performs a variety of general housekeeping duties involved in the care and cleaning of the Downtown Residence facility. The Residence Health Aide provides leadership and assures the well-being for all, in line with YMCA of the USA guidelines and Association policies.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary: $15.00/hour, Full-time non-exempt

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Sweep, mop and wax floors.

  • Clean windows, window frames and sills.

  • Clean and maintain bathrooms in a sanitary condition.

  • Clean water fountains and lobby phone.

  • Detail ledges, railings, baseboards in assigned rooms and hallways.

  • Pick up trash, empty wastebaskets and garbage container; and remove all trash to area for disposal.

  • Replenish paper product holders.

  • Provide household cleaning orientation to new residents, and assist residents in practicing clean and sanitary living habits.

  • Performs administrative tasks; such as inventory of supplies and submitting work orders for repairs

  • Attends scheduled staff meetings, required trainings and workshops as required.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Residence Management team and Corporate Facilities Director.

Experience, Education, and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum six months of work related experience.

  • Work requires the ability to read, understand and follow written procedures and instructions such as, YMCA policies and procedures, safety rules, directions on cleaning supplies and various chemicals.

  • Ability to safely and effectively operate various types of cleaning tools and equipment.

  • Ability to pull, push, grasp, bend, twist and lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Possess good organizational skills.

  • Exercise good judgment and discernment.

  • Good oral and written skills, as well as the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with Residents, Directors and Staff.

  • Demonstrates the ability to work successfully independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to multitask in an environment with many distractions is a must.

  • Perform basic mathematical computations such as; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using whole numbers and common fractions, to calculate correct cleaning and chemical measurements.

  • Ability to analyze and solve problem situations and/or complaints from residents and relay such issues onto the Director.

    Experience, Education, and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Must pass a background check.

  • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.

  • Detail-oriented and thorough.

  • Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.

  • Ability to keep the facility/assigned area clean and orderly.

  • Ability to interact with staff, members, participants, and visitors while remaining professional, polite, and courteous.

    Trainings & Certifications:

  • Must complete annual safety, combating sexual-harassment, and child abuse prevention trainings assigned by human resources prior to direct service.

  • Must have current CPR and First Aid

  • Must take required safety trainings within first 30 days of employment.

    Physical Requirements:

    The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Prolonged periods standing.

    Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

    Work Environment:

    This job operates in a recreational and/or educational environment. This role routinely uses standard recreation and/or office equipment. At times, employees may be exposed to undesirable working conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and risk of injury from others. All employees are required to always follow the preventative health policies of the YMCA. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
