POSITION TITLE: Interventional Radiology Technologist

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Vascular Surgeon, provides technical support and assistance to the physician during Interventional Radiology procedures. Support physicians (scrub), operate x-ray/ ultrasound equipment, and circulate Interventional Radiology procedures. Use clinical knowledge, technical skills, and professional judgement in accordance with professional and departmental standards and protocols.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

Satisfactory completion of formal imaging training in an AMA approved school and meets requirements for American Registry of Radiologic Technologist and/or New York State Licensed in Radiologic Technology with intravascular contrast injection 89.4 (can add injection license upon hire). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain radiation safety and infection control protocols.

  • Adapts imaging and therapeutic procedures with professional judgment to improve diagnostic quality and therapeutic outcome.

  • Operates ancillary equipment adherent to specific procedures.

  • Demonstrates proficiency with the setup and operation of all equipment associated with interventional procedures.

  • Circulates within procedure room and procures equipment required for any given procedure.

  • Utilizes sterile or aseptic technique to scrub in and assists physicians with procedures per protocol.

  • Manually injects contrast agent.

  • Ability to remove arterial and venous sheaths.

  • Establishes effective working relationships and utilizes a team approach to process improvement.

  • Performs duties in instances where normal, routine practice cannot be applied, often in high stress situations.

  • Ensures patients safety and comfort during and after exams.

  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.

  • Learns new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation sessions.

  • Utilizes Material Safety Data Sheets within service.

  • Adheres to established hospital policy and procedures related to job function.

  • Maintains confidentiality related to patients, staff and visitors.

  • Adheres to hospital confidentiality statement.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Clinical setting. Exposure Class I.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Medium work: standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, wearing lead, pushing and pulling.

WORK CONTACT GROUP:

All services, employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, vendors, various regulatory and professional agencies.

Per Diem Pay Range: $35.58- $53.70

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location
