SUNY Upstate Medical University Grounds Worker in Syracuse, New York
Job Summary:
Must be able to work alternate shifts and overtime based on operational needs during the winter months. This position will report to the Facilities Operations Assistant 2. The Grounds Worker performs a variety of routine manual tasks requiring little planning or special knowledge, and sustains medium to heavy physical effort involving frequent exposure to all kinds of weather conditions. Duties include, but not limited to: cleans grounds by sweeping, raking, shoveling and removing by hand debris, leaves branches etc., clears sites and prepares them for planting; plants seeds, bushes, etc. using hand and power tools; cuts grass, fertilizes and waters grounds, prunes, removes bushes and trees; loads trucks with debris, logs etc.; breaks up concrete to repair holes; assist in mixing and applying concrete and asphalt; removes trash and snow from roads and walkway; plows roads and parking lots and mixes salt and sand used on them; cuts glass; adjusts and paints window panes; oils ventilating mechanisms; cleans, flushes, and repairs gutters and drains; repairs bench flats; sterilizes pots and mixes soils used for planting; plants and transplants seedlings; must be available to perform moderate to heavy lifting; moves furniture and office equipment and follows instructions when transporting equipment; must be able to assist skilled and semi-skilled trades in various tasks; must have the ability to use various hand/power tools; and motorized equipment to include skid-steer/loader, plow trucks, and tractor; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must possess & maintain a valid NYS driver's license.
Minimum Qualifications:
No education or experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Snow removal experience, ability to operate a New Holland Loader or Bobcat preferred.
Work Days:
Schedule based on 40 hours per week. Sunday-Thursday 7am-3:30pm, rotating shifts in winter
