National Grid's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we'll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one - putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you'll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

About the Position

As an Associate Engineer, Electrical Planning and Design you will help to monitor and report on the conditions of the distribution assets that provide energy to the communities of Upstate New York. In this role you will develop, manage, update, and monitor the implementation of asset management policy, strategy, initiatives, and work plans to ensure alignment with National Grid's Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP).

This is a hybrid role that can be based in Syracuse, Albany, or Buffalo, New York.

What You'll Do

As an Associate Engineer you will be essential to the function of the power gird in the Upstate New York region.

In this role you will:

  • Be integral to the development of the five-year work plan and fifteen-year Strategic Asset Management Plan.
  • Drive the development and implementation of effective asset management plans and strategies, delivering on the asset management objectives.
  • Assist in the documentation and development of asset inventory for each class of assets including asset condition, level of service and performance, risk signature, maintenance strategies, repair/replacement models, financial forecasts, tactical and work plans.
  • Assist regional customer operations in the technical operation of the distribution system.
  • Support customer interconnections and provide technical guidance to customer groups.
  • Provides support to other areas of National Grid such as Electric Operations, Regional Control Center, Substation Engineering, Distribution Design, Smart Grid & New Energy Solutions.

What You'll Need
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science from an accredited institution
  • Graduated between May 2024 and June 2025
  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 2, 2025 or July 7, 2025
  • Valid US driver's license
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)

Salary Range
Syracuse, Buffalo, or Albany, New York $83,300 - $98,000 a year

Please note US Colleagues must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island and Vermont. As a National Grid employee, you should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
