The Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area is presently conducting a search for the key role of Executive Director of Community Services. Established in 1833 here in Onondaga County, The Salvation Army currently serves more than 40,000 individuals annually through 40 programs and 13 locations. This position will offer the incumbent access to the following negotiable, comprehensive and competitive compensation & benefits program:

    Scope and purpose: The Executive Director for Community Services is responsible for the day-to-day overall operations of community programs , managing staff, developing services and supporting functions for the Syracuse Area Services Division of The Salvation Army. Reporting to the Director of County Operations, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of human service programs in Onondaga Count y, to include the design, development and implementation of strategic and programmatic plans.

Responsibilities

Overview of responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with strategic partners at the local and county level. Monitor, evaluate, research and respond to local, county, state, federal policy developments and issues.

  • Function as primary SAS representative in contract and programmatic negotiations with city, county, state and partner agencies, as well as key charitable funding sources such as the United Way of Central New York.

  • In conjunction with Divisional Social Services Director, participates in state and regional networks to advance the goals and mission of all Salvation Army programs.

  • Monitor budgets, grants, and overall fiscal operation of all program

  • Manage and monitor operational support from Government and United Way for all program services to ensure accountability of program service delivery and outcome measurements.

  • Direct/shared liaison with Area Coordinator/Director of County Operations to the Advisory

  • In conjunction with development staff, help identify and cultivate potential funding partners for the Army’s strategic initiatives in Onondaga County, Central New York Region and the Empire State Division.

  • Primary responsibility for direction of the operation, with the exception of Human Resources, Pastoral Care, Development, Information Technology, and required communications and approvals through the Salvation Army chain of command, for which primary responsibility is retained by the Area Coordinator/Director of County Operations.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Master’s, MBA or MSW and Ten (10) years of experience.

  • Five (5) years of experience in a leadership capacity for an agency with publicly funded programs.

  • Leadership capabilities with internal & external stakeholder

  • Competency in human resources, state and local government relations, program development and implementation.

  • Driver’s License: NYS valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army’s insurance requirements.
