Empower Federal Credit Union Bankruptcy Clerk in Syracuse, New York

Role:


The Bankruptcy Clerk is responsible for managing member accounts involved in bankruptcy filings. This role requires strong administrative skills and meticulous organization, and a strong attention to detail in handling accounts and maintaining essential documents. The clerk prepares and files reaffirmations, exports loan documentation for each case, and updates multiple fields in systems like Akcelerant, DNA, CCM, and UAS to track filing status through the discharge process. Additionally, they manage the blocking of mailings, removal of limits, and termination of online banking for affected accounts.

In this role, the clerk also provides backup support to other areas within the division. They are responsible for handling all email correspondence and maintaining accurate logs of all communications. The position may also include additional duties as assigned, ensuring the smooth operation of the bankruptcy process within the organization.

Location: Our headquarters are in Syracuse, NY, and our hybrid model requires in-office attendance as needed, with a minimum of 5 days per month.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:



50%

Bankruptcy Filing Management:
-Ensure all member accounts involved in bankruptcy are noted and blocked promptly to prevent unauthorized transactions.
-Collaborate with collectors to provide clear and accurate information to members regarding their bankruptcy status.
-Maintain up-to-date records and documentation for all bankruptcy filings, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

Legal & Trustee Interaction:
-Coordinate with the credit union attorney to review and address legal matters related to bankruptcy cases.
-Analyze and process incoming Trustee Payments, ensuring they are accurately applied to member accounts.
-Monitor and manage Bankruptcy queues, including those for repossessions and charge-offs, to ensure timely and effective resolution.

Bankruptcy Reporting:
-Compile and analyze data for the monthly Bankruptcy Metric Report, ensuring all relevant information is included.
-Identify trends or anomalies in the report data to provide insights for decision-making.
-Ensure the timely and accurate submission of the Bankruptcy Metric Report to relevant stakeholders.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:


Experience

2 to 4 years of similar or related experience in roles focused on bankruptcy processing, account management, or legal documentation, with a strong preference for experience within a financial institution.


Education

A high school diploma or GED is required. Coursework or certifications in business administration, finance, or related fields is beneficial.


Interpersonal Skills

Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.

-Competent in working with mathematical concepts such as profitability, statistical inference, and applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical scenarios.
