What you'll do:

As a Principal Software Engineer for the Customer Acquisition and Customer Benefits teams for our Walmart+, you'll have the opportunity to

  • Guide and mentor, a team of engineers, conducting code reviews and leading design discussions to ensure engineering best practices.

  • Act as a technical authority, providing direction and expertise to the team.

  • Drive the adoption of coding standards, design patterns, and development best practices.

Architectural Leadership:

  • Lead the creation and maintenance of our technical architecture, aligning it with business goals and scalability requirements.

  • Architect complex software systems, ensuring performance, security, and scalability needs are met.

Software Craftsmanship:

  • Consistently produce high-quality software with a focus on unit testing, regular code reviews, and continuous integration.

  • Uphold high standards in quality and operational excellence.

Technical Documentation:

  • Develop comprehensive technical documentation and presentations to clearly communicate architectural decisions and design options.

  • Ensure documentation aligns with project scopes, milestones, and deliverables.

Engineering Advocacy:

  • Promote and enforce technical standards across the organization to achieve concrete outcomes and drive engineering excellence.

  • Foster a culture of learning and innovation through hands-on technical guidance and mentorship.

Project Leadership:

  • Lead the discovery phase of major projects, ensuring the design aligns with business goals and technical requirements.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scopes and milestones.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, UX/UI, Quality Assurance, and DevOps teams.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Innovation and Research:

  • Stay at the forefront of technological advancements, conducting research to identify emerging tools and methodologies.

What you'll bring:

  • Experience with membership program is a plus.

  • Should have extensive knowledge in their field, including advanced concepts in software engineering, system architecture, and technology trends. This expertise is crucial for driving innovation, solving complex technical problems, and providing guidance on best practices.

  • The ability to lead by example, mentor junior engineers, and influence decision-making processes at all levels of the organization is vital. This includes promoting a culture of technical excellence, encouraging continuous learning, and fostering collaboration across teams.

  • A strategic mindset to align technical initiatives with business goals is essential. This involves understanding the broader business context, anticipating future trends and challenges, and making decisions that balance short-term needs with long-term objectives.

  • Expected to tackle some of the most challenging problems in the organization. This requires exceptional analytical skills, creativity, and the ability to develop innovative solutions that are scalable, efficient, and effective

  • Experience working on monitoring, alerting and dashboarding tools. Experience with operating systems and networking stacks. Experience with RESTful Microservices API design and development in languages including Java, Golang, Python, Ruby, or JavaScript. Experience with CI/CD and cloud native technology including Kubernetes and Docker. Experience designing and developing database technologies relational database including MySQL or non-relational database including Cassandra, MongoDB or Elastic Search. Experience testing frameworks. Experience with technical solutions architecture and design. Experience developing and mentoring a team of engineers. Experience working with cloud platform including OpenStack, Azure, GCP, or AWS. Experience with complex system performance data analysis, system troubleshooting and applied technical problem-solving skills to effectively manage operations

Flexible, hybrid work:

We use a hybrid way of working that is primarily in office coupled with virtual when not onsite. Salary Range: $174,518/year to $286,000/year. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location) and Stock equity incentives.
