Uber Staff Software Engineer U4B in Sunnyvale, California

Uber for Business (U4B) enables organizations of all sizes to leverage the power of Uber. We serve businesses across the globe on their transportation, delivery, and logistics needs and are a key strategic vector for Uber at large. Within U4B, U4B APIs are a critical channel to integrate Uber products with our enterprise partners.

We are looking for someone with a passion for architecting, building, coding and scaling highly-available, mission critical external facing API platforms for our enterprise partners.

What the Candidate Will Do ----

  • Actively seek out the engineering and business problems, tackle them with little to no mentorship.

  • Take the larger vision or challenge and break it down into strategies and plans including trade-offs, convergence, and closure across teams required to realize the vision.

  • Be a role model on acting with good judgment and responsibility. Engineers across the organization will look to you on how best to plan and execute on projects

  • Improving standard methodologies, producing best in class of code, documentation, testing and monitoring

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable and reliable backend systems

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, business development teams, and drive technical vision to scale systems for growing business needs

  • Drive continuous improvement in system architecture and operational excellence, with a focus on reliability, security, performance, scalability, and maintainability

  • Stay current with the latest technologies and industry trends, evaluating and integrating new tools and methodologies as appropriate.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience

  • 9+ years of experience in professional software development with detailed inside-out knowledge of any of the general programming languages e.g. Java, Go, C/C++, Python

  • 5+ years of experience in the design and solution of distributed systems operating at scale

  • Passion for driving continual improvement initiatives on engineering standard methodologies including coding, testing and monitoring.

  • Solid technical leadership abilities, and comfortable working with various stakeholders to ensure adoption/impact

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write detailed technical documents

  • Passionate about helping teams grow by inspiring and mentoring engineers.

  • Master's or PhD degree in in Computer Science or a related field

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
