Atlantic Health System Director, Risk Management in Summit, New Jersey

The Director of Risk Management (RM) is responsible for the successful management of the Risk Management Program at Overlook Medical Center and CentraState Medical Center, including overseeing the event reporting system and review process, ensuring appropriate event follow up, PCE classification, compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and reporting to the AHS Insurance Co.

Job Responsibility

  • Coordinate the risk management activities to maximize resources available to efficiently manage risk management efforts and integrate risk reduction strategies throughout the assigned hospitals

  • Identify opportunities for loss control efforts to reduce risk and improve safety / quality

    Risk Management

  • Oversee the organization’s response to significant occurrences; review facts; review medical record/documentation; preserve any evidence; interview staff; ensure appropriate corrective action plan and monitoring

  • Responsibility for risk scenario that arise requiring immediate response and action

  • Collaborate with clinical leadership on peer review and Quality & Outcomes Management

  • Facilitate on site DOH visits, respond to DOH calls of complaint. Ensure compliance with DOH/CMS regulations regarding clinical patient complaints/grievances

    Patient Relations

  • Manage complaints/grievance process and ensure compliance with hospital licensing standards, state and federal regulations.

  • Proactive management of patient complaints and grievances in collaboration with clinical leadership

  • Liaison between patient/family and nursing/physician teams to resolve concerns

  • Track and trend patterns of complaints/grievances and reports to leadership

  • Participate in Bioethics Committee and individual patient cases as needed

  • Support Case Management and clinical team on guardianship related matters

  • Oversee management of language translation services for patients and families while ensuring compliance with regulations; provide education to teams on language translation services

    Training/Education

  • Educate team members on risk management's role and promote accessibility as a resource

  • Provides in-service training, education to nursing staff, medical staff, as requested or recommended based on identified need through case review, including litigation process, documentation, incident management, hospital policies, protocols

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters preferred

  • Licensure required

  • Minimum 7- 10 years of progressive experience in a highly matrixed healthcare system, preferably

  • 3-5 years of leadership experience preferred in a healthcare environment
