Waubonsee Community College invites applications for a part-time instructor position for Developmental English (Integrated Reading and Writing) courses.

Adjunct Faculty are tasked with providing high-quality instruction and assessing student learning through both formative and summative methods. This role requires a professional with exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to effectively utilize instructional and classroom technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Reporting to the Dean, Adjunct Faculty will prepare course syllabi and design lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments tailored to different learning styles, ensuring that students meet course objectives and outcomes. They will incorporate learner-centered principles and motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational experience. Adjunct Faculty are also responsible for evaluating student performance and maintaining timely and accurate records, including attendance verifications, academic progress, and final course grades.

They collaborate effectively with students and colleagues, and work constructively with individuals from diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities. They demonstrate sensitivity to and the ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Applicants must have experiences and availability (in-person) teaching the following courses:

  • Reading and Writing Fundamentals (TTH 11:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m.)
  • Basic Integrated Reading and Writing ( MW 11:00 a.m.-1:50 p.m.)
  • First-year Compositions I + Supplemental Course ( TTH 11:00 a.m.- 1:20 p.m.)

Minimum Qualifications

Master\'s Degree in English, English Education or Reading from an accredited college.

Two years of experience teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching Developmental English at a community college or university.

Competency in technologies commonly used in college level instruction (canvas & zoom)

Experience with ELL students a plus.
