This is a contingent position for an Engineering Technician I that is responsible for supporting a variety of tasking to include cabling, fabrication, assembly, and installation of equipment. This position completes simple routine tasks under close supervision or from detailed procedures. This position requires the ability to work within a team environment, in the field or in a lab/office environment. Assemble or construct simple or standard equipment or parts; and services or repairs simple instruments or equipment, which may require simple wiring, soldering, or connecting. Conducts a variety of tests using established methods, adjusts and operates equipment and records test data, pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide structural analysis, repairs, painting and general upkeep in maintaining shipboard systems to ensure continuance of communication systems using specialty machines and equipment.

  • Assists in the repair and maintaining of electrical, electronic and RF communications equipment as needed.

  • Comprehension and hands on application of NAVSEA installation standards and Military Specifications for shipboard C4ISR systems installations.

  • Performs shipboard and shore site (project based) electronics installations, upgrades, field changes IAW applicable military, federal, and/or industrial standards.

  • Comprehend and execute tasking of moderate to high complexity with little to no supervision.

  • Works well within a team environment in the field.

  • Possess and properly utilize installation hand tools such as screw drivers, wrenches, tie-wrap guns, connector crimpers, wire strippers, side cutters, and electrical scissors among many others.

  • Interpret technical drawings or publications in order to execute a specific task.

  • Quickly adapt and understand new system installations through independent study, research, and comprehension.

  • Travel to job sites as required by the PM and IAW the Joint Federal Travel Regulations (JFTR).

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Moving and un-crating of equipment.

  • Installation of electronic equipment, ducts, cableways, cables, lagging.

  • Use of power tools.

Qualifications

  • Position requires High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of experience in a related field.

  • Formal electronics training from a Class A or C military school in electronics or communications desirable.  

  • Experience working with C4ISR Systems.

  • Experience in electronic systems troubleshooting and repair, including both shipboard and shore stations.

  • Experience with electronic engineering drawings, technical publications and manuals.

  • Experience with electronic system operations, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and repair and supply support of electronic distribution systems.

  • Knowledge of connector fabrication, soldering, cableway or telecommunications training such as BICSI, 3M, IPC, or NAVSEA instruction is a plus.

  • Ability to obtain a secret security clearance preferred.  

  • Must be a US citizen.

  • OSHA-10 Maritime and VSRA preferred.
