Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)

Stony Brook University, Department of Surgery, Trauma Division is seeking an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (NP). The NP will assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). This position is assigned to the acute care hospital setting for our complex surgical ICU patients such as acute care surgery, thoracic surgery, trauma, and gynecologic surgery as examples. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.

Essential Functions

  • Primary responsibilities will be to collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams caring for trauma, emergency general surgery, and critically ill patients, managing both their acute and chronic healthcare needs.
  • The NP will demonstrate an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, with the ability to evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment for complex surgical and critically ill patients from admission to stabilization and transfer out of ICU.
  • The NP must demonstrate clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professionalism, and compliant documentation in a timely manner.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing from an accredited nursing program. Active New York APRN license with prescriptive authority. Active Board Certification in an appropriate nursing specialty.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years of nursing experience.
