Stony Brook Medicine (Stony Brook University Hospital) Anesthesia Technician I/II - Includes Weekend Hours in Stony Brook, New York
Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, an Anesthesia Technician is a valuable member of our team, who assist the Anesthesiology Team by assuring all supplies and equipment are available, clean and/or sterile, and functioning properly. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence and adhering to all federal, state and local regulatory standards.
Duties of anAnesthesia Technician may include but are not limited to:
- Provides support for procedures by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia.
- Set up, calibrate, operate and maintain monitoring and anesthesia equipment in advance of procedure start time.
- Prepare airway equipment and suction set up.
- Set up blood warmer, rapid infuser and transducers as requested.
- Set up and run cell saver machine for intra-operative blood salvage under clinical direction. Apply noninvasive monitors on the patient (including pulse oximetry, EKG, blood pressure cuff, BIS monitor, nerve stimulator).
- Set up warming blanket apparatus and adjust in accordance with the instructions to regulate proper temperature.
- Assist in all off-site locations as required: transport equipment, room set up and clean up.
- Participate in room turnover team to maintain efficiency in a clean, safe environment.
- Assist the Anesthesiology Team in the transport of patients in and out of the procedure suites.
- Assist in patient positioning for anesthesia procedures as directed. Demonstrates knowledge of airway management protocols, including trans-tracheal intubations, fiberoptic scopes, LMAs.Assists during difficult intubations.
- Inspect and perform basic maintenance on all equipment used within the department.
- Ensure and maintain the sterility and cleanliness of specialized equipment through adherence to hospital policy and procedures related to infection control and safety.
- Management of departmental supplies, including monitoring for outdated items and par levels.
- Participate in Anesthesia CQI Team to improve the efficiency of patient care and equipment management in the operating room.
- Provide instruction to staff and student Technicians on anesthesia equipment and procedures.
The selected candidate will be required to periodically work on weekend days and holidays.
Qualifications
Required:
Anesthesia Technician I:Two years of full time healthcare experience in a clinical setting. At least three professional letters of reference from clinical supervisors or clinical professors.
Anesthesia Technician II:Health Sciences Bachelor's degree with a concentration/major/specialization in Anesthesia Technology from an ASATT accredited program. Completion of Anesthesia Technician internship. At least three professional letters of reference from clinical supervisors or clinical professors.

- All Hospital positions maybe subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary.
- This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
- This function/position maybe designated as "essential." This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 5 panel drug screen
- Successfully complete a Background Check investigation.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
