Schedule: Hybrid work schedule (at least 2 days per week on-site).

Stanford Medicine is a world-class academic medical institution comprised of Stanford University School of Medicine, a research-intensive medical school, and Stanford Health Care, a regional hospital system that is nationally recognized for quality patient care and leading-edge technology. Stanford’s top-ranking Medical Center Development (MCD) team supports the goals and purposes of Stanford Medicine including a significant focus on securing resources to realize the aspirations of the medical enterprise in alignment with the Stanford University-wide strategic vision.

MCD seeks an experienced Associate Director of Corporate, Foundation, and Association Relations (CFAR) . The CFAR program raises a significant portion of MCD’s annual fundraising totals, and works closely with faculty and staff to grow, sustain and leverage philanthropic engagement with corporate, foundation, and association constituents. Our work spans the medical enterprise and requires active and collaborative work with development colleagues in Principal and Major Gifts, the central development office, as well as many allied campus offices, including sponsored research, tech licensing, conflict of interest, and industrial contracts. CFAR sometimes serves as development lead for research programs and units where corporate and/or foundation support is particularly important. The team also works routinely with school and research administrative colleagues on university policy issues related to corporate and foundation support. If you enjoy building and maintaining relationships, have exceptional attention to detail, are comfortable navigating complexity, are intellectually curious, adept at project management, and enjoy working with faculty and staff across a university, this may be the right opportunity for you.

In this role, you will:

  • Operate independently in assigned areas with responsibility for a portfolio of corporate, foundation, and association funders, including prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation, proposal development, and coordination of internal support activities.

  • Plan and implement a corporate fund-raising plan at the university level or within a school or unit.

  • Develop solicitation goals, objectives, and strategies for specific institutional funders and/or development projects. Cultivate and solicit gifts and other support to the university, including sponsored research, in-kind contributions, and hybrid funding collaborations.

  • Work with faculty, funders, volunteers, and university staff from a variety of offices to raise financial support from corporations, foundations, and associations, while balancing institutional and funder goals, and complying with university policies.

  • Lead and assist in coordinating campus visits, outreaching to institutional prospects, identifying new prospective donors, and facilitating relationships between potential and current donors and faculty and students.

  • Provide information and advice to inform university policy decisions in response to changing faculty needs and/or funder landscape.

  • Stay informed about current university initiatives, research, and educational programs and activities to support the alignment of the overall giving goals of the university's development organization.

  • May manage employees, program activities and/or operations to achieve goals and vision of the team and organization.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in university/business alliances and strategies, and sponsored research experience or knowledge (strongly preferred).

  • Corporate engagement and strategic planning know-how (strongly preferred)

  • Sponsored research experience and knowledge (strongly preferred).

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in corporate and/or foundation prospect research and identification, relationship building, proposal and budget development, and solicitation.

  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and corporate and foundation professionals.

  • Superior written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to translate complex concepts into a compelling case for philanthropic support.

  • Proven ability to work within a complex environment with competing university and funder agendas.

  • Commitment to a collaborative culture, with the patience, persistence, and flexibility to build consensus and facilitate decision-making across multiple constituencies. A focus on team success rather than personal recognition.

  • Growth mindset with experience mentoring and working with volunteers, faculty, and staff.

  • Advanced ability with Microsoft Office suite.
