Stanford University is seeking a Research Coordinator for a transformative study of adolescents’ smartphone use and their nutrition, health and well-being. Join our team employing cutting-edge technology to observe and interpret smartphone screens recorded every few seconds for six months and to assess nutritional intake and other measures of health and well-being. The Research Coordinator will be a member of the internationally-renown Stanford Screenomics Lab’s Human Screenome Project and the Stanford Solutions Science Lab.

Under the direct supervision of Stanford Professors (the Principal Investigators), the Research Coordinator will be responsible for implementing a new study, including recruiting and screening prospective study participants, obtaining parent/guardian informed consent and adolescent assent and enrolling participants, tracking data collected with software and surveys and implementing phone interviews, corresponding with participants for study retention and compensation, database management and data labeling, data analysis, writing reports and manuscripts, social media advertising, managing internal review board reviews and reporting, and other tasks to successfully conduct the research. The work may also include opportunities to contribute to other projects in the research group.

Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's or master’s degree and experience with research with adolescents. Desired ability to use or learn statistical software (e.g., R, Python, REDCap, Qualtrics, Excel) to manage and organize databases, design and administer surveys, and analyze data, and to conduct scientific literature reviews and contribute to manuscripts and conference proposals. Requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, a growth mindset, initiative, ability to handle multiple tasks on deadlines, and enthusiasm for research innovation and scientific discovery.

The Research Coordinator will:

· Be part of an innovative study on adolescents’ smartphone use, with the potential to improve physical and psychological health and well-being.

· Help develop the new scientific field of Screenomics, studying media, behavior and health, in real time, in situ.

· Work closely with outstanding faculty Principal Investigators and an experienced, inter-disciplinary research team (e.g., communication, medicine, psychology, computer science, statistics, education, nutrition, software engineering).

· Learn advanced research study design and implementation principles and procedures.

· Manage, organize and analyze big data using statistical software (e.g., R, Python).

· Interact directly with adolescent study participants and their parents.

· Contribute to scientific publications (conferences, posters, publications, media).

· Benefit from professional development opportunities.

Duties include:

· Prepare correspondence, documents and reports.

· Maintain and file forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs.

· Assist with the screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent of study participants. Perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data, as needed. Schedule and/or call subjects for appointments.

· Prepare, distribute, administer and process questionnaires and tests, score test measurements and questionnaires, and code data for computer entry. Perform quantitative review of forms, tests, and other measurements for completeness and accuracy.

· Prepare data for input into statistical databases by typing, editing, and organizing data.

· Apply formulas and calculations to research data using basic statistical programs. Review and verify accuracy of database information and assist in making necessary corrections according to specific guidelines.

· Process study compensation payments and thank you letters to subjects upon completion of trial activities. Assist with post-study activities, as needed.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Four-year college degree or Master’s degree and/or equivalent experience in applicable social science or health research, particularly with adolescents.

· Experience and/or interest in using research software and databases including Excel, REDCap, Qualtrics, R, Python.

· Experience and/or interest in computational research using intensive longitudinal data for studying life experiences in situ.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Two-year college degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

· General understanding of scientific theory and methods.

· General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.

· Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.

· Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.

· Effective oral and written communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

· Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

· Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts.

· Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, and operates foot and/or hand controls.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $24.04-$34.13/hr.
