Hiring a Phlebotomist for a Stamford/Greenwich Float Position!

Job Description

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Experience in performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.

  • Updating patient information and collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures.

  • Properly explaining the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.

  • Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

  • Fully understanding all of the physicians' orders and matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

  • Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.

  • Checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

  • Packaging specimens for transport and storing specimen samples according to required temperature.

  • Placing samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labeling, and following different procedures as outlined by specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.

  • Understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations.

  • Attending annual department trainings and answering telephone calls, reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required).

  • Minimum of 12 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Proven track record in providing exceptional customer service.

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.

  • Comfortable working under minimal supervision.

  • Reliable transportation and clean driving record (if applicable).

  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.

  • Knowledge of different gauges and phlebotomy techniques.

  • Ability to enter data correctly in different EMRs.

  • Excellent customer service skills due to high volume of patients.

  • Specimen collection and venipuncture skills.

Work Environment

  • Work Schedule: Varying schedule 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm.

  • Every other Saturday once training has been completed.

  • Work Locations: Cos Cob, Greenwich & Stamford, CT.

  • The candidate will be floating to both locations and will train at a Stamford site for either 3-6 weeks depending on learning speed.

  • Fast-paced environment with 100+ patients daily.

  • New facility offering experience similar to a hospital setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.11/hr.
