Nurse Practitioner - Special Procdures Unit (CT)

The Special Procedures Unit (SPU) is an ambulatory center that performs non-operative treatment procedures on patients that need pain management of spinal and sports-related injuries, and other musculoskeletal problems. The procedures performed are medically supervised exercise therapies to restore mobility and function in patients who might otherwise require surgery. Some of the conditions include but not limited to are; back pain, neck pain, muscle and joint pain, sports injuries, post-surgical pain, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)/Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), headaches, facet syndromes, nerve injuries, Osteoid Osteoma, phantom limb pain, sciatica, spinal stenosis, and cancer pain. The procedures and treatments performed in SPU include; epidural steroid injections - cervical, thoracic, lumbar and caudal, facet joint injections - cervical, thoracic and lumbar, intramuscular and subcutaneous trigger/tender point injections, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections, diagnostic and therapeutic spinal injection, diagnostic discography, implantable pain pumps, musculoskeletal and joint injection, medication management, nerve blocks, pulsed cold radiofrequency procedures radiofrequency ablations, sacroiliac joint blocks, spinal cord stimulation, spinal nerve root/dorsal root ganglion blocks - cervical, thoracic and lumbar, sympathetic ganglion and nerve Blocks, botox injections for migraine headaches and acupuncture.
As an integral member of our Magnet Nursing team, the successful NP candidate will be focused on – patient advocacy and delivering the highest quality of care to our patients! Working in an evidence-based nursing environment that commands excellence every day, you will provide comprehensive pre- and post-operative nursing care to our patients and their families in this acute care setting. Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary health care teams to maintain the standards of professional nursing practices in a clinical setting
Work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Provide clinical consultation, assessment, and management to patients
Provide pre and post-operative and discharge education to patients and family members with regards to safety issues when applicable (e.g., medication, post-operative precautions, use of equipment, etc.)
Utilize the computerized order communication system, including transcription of medical orders, retrieval of test results and documentation of results.
Collect comprehensive data on patients’ health (from patients and/or family members); Analyze data to determine needs & develop individualized care plans; update care plans based on progression and pathway as well as manage care delivery
Enter orders, complete medication reconciliation, ensure that all orders are carried out appropriately and timely; work collaboratively with ancillary staff, including Patient Care Assistants
Integrate patient care standards in all clinical activities; participate in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety, quality of care and patient outcomes
Maintain sensitivity and awareness of cultural and religious diversity when addressing patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers
Promote a supportive and team-oriented environment
Support departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range strategic plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital
Qualifications
Minimum Requirement s:
Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
A minimum of three years clinical experience required in an RN role
Current CT and NY license, registration and certification in your area of practice (Nurse Practitioner).
BLS/ACLS/PALS
DEA license required
Board Certification required
Essential Qualifications:
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence others are essential
Proactive and outstanding decision-making abilities
Ability to work with varied members of the medical team (surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, etc)
