This position serves our partners at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) within the Department of Public Safety (DPS). MNIT BCA provides comprehensive IT operations and support services, custom application development, and dedicated business-specific support functions for investigative and specialized law enforcement services. You will support an agency that partners with law enforcement, public safety, and criminal justice agencies to prevent and solve crimes.

As a Senior UI/UX Developer for Minnesota Justice Information Services (MNJIS), you will design and create software to meet the business goals of BCA MNJIS. You will provide technical expertise and design skills in the development of web-based user interfaces, with a focus on user experience, accessibility, and testability. All developed software will be fully and accurately unit tested and documented. You will provide leadership in developing standards and good practices for software development, mentor junior developers, and participate in knowledge transfer from any contract.

This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is anticipated to last up to three (3) years .

This position requires an employee to be onsite at the work location 2 days per week

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St Paul, Minnesota

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:

This position requires minimum of five (5) years of experience as a software developer.

Experience must include:

  • Advanced JavaScript skills.

  • Creating and maintaining unit tests for JavaScript using tools such as Jest, Jasmine, or Mocha.

  • Advanced HTML and CSS skills.

  • Strong skills with modern front-end tooling, such as npm, vite, webpack, parcel, or rollup.

  • Ability to design secure, effective, responsive, mobile-first, accessible user interfaces and user experiences that follow known UI/UX industry good practices.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing with the following front-end technologies: SASS, Typescript, Bootstrap, jQuery, ASP.NET MVC, web components, and modern front-end frameworks like Angular, React, Vue, or Svelte.

  • Experience working with SOAP/REST Web Services, Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL.

  • Familiar with accessibility testing tools: JAWS, WAVE, Lighthouse, Pa11y.

  • Experience using git.

  • Experience using Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools.

  • Experience being part of a Scrum team.

  • Experience working in a disparate environment (understanding how environments interact and pass data between systems).
