The Metals and Radiochemistry Supervisor will be responsible for supervising scientific research and analytical activities in the Metals and Radiochemistry Unit of the Environmental Laboratory. The Supervisor will also:

  • Plan and direct quality assurance systems within the unit.

  • Provide oversight of any relevant grant funded activities.

  • Hire, train, direct, and evaluate unit staff.

  • Manage all applicable unit resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.

  • 4 years of laboratory experience that includes: metals and radiochemical contaminants and/or environmental samples.

  • Supervisory or other leadership experience OR completion of a leadership development program (such as Emerging Leaders Institute, etc.).

Qualifications to be further be assessed during the interview process:

  • Experience implementing and evaluating laboratory methods.

  • Human relations skills sufficient to achieve effective working relationships within the agency and externally.

  • Communication skills, both verbally and in writing, sufficient to communicate information clearly to a variety of internal and external partners.

  • Experience with critical thinking, problem solving, and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data.

A related master’s degree may substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience. A related PhD may substitute for two (2) years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of MDH programs, policies and regulations.

  • Leadership experience in a laboratory setting.

  • Experience setting supply and equipment budgets.

  • Experience communicating with representatives from governmental agencies.
