Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$96,600.00 - $159,400.00

What Is the Opportunity?

The Manager, Sustainability is responsible for managing, creating and delivering design, written, and/or multimedia content relating to Travelers' sustainability efforts (most notably, Travelers' public-facing sustainability reporting). In this role, you will work with many subject matter experts to update Travelers' sustainability report and partner closely with the Chief Sustainability Officer and Chief Legal Officer to finalize the report and prepare it for publication on an annual basis.

What Will You Do?

  • Spearheads the annual process of updating the content of Travelers’ sustainability site, including:

  • Identifying (where necessary) and engaging with appropriate internal subject matter experts with respect to each substantive section of the site.

  • Editing content received from others, putting it in the “voice of Travelers” and ensuring that it’s appropriately drafted for a (primarily) investor audience.

  • Validating content to ensure accuracy.

  • Drafting content, where necessary.

  • Implementing edits received from subject matter experts, as appropriate, and managing multiple versions of the various subsections of the site on a Workiva platform designed for sustainability reporting.

  • Partnering closely with Travelers’ Corporate Finance team and the Sustainability team’s Project Administrator, both of which play central roles in the sustainability report update process.

  • Partnering closely with the company’s sustainability reporting consultant.

  • Engaging with other internal and outside partners and/or vendors, as necessary.

  • Making recommendations for potential enhancements to Travelers’ sustainability reporting.

  • Works closely with Corporate Communications to prepare internal and external communications and marketing content regarding Travelers’ approach to sustainability and various sustainability efforts.

  • Prepares and/or edits design, written, and/or multimedia content for internal and external sustainability-related presentations, panels or events.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Typical incumbent experience level 5-7 years of communications/content development experience.

  • General knowledge of the creative development, design, copy, production and media planning functions and the ability to integrate and coordinate multiple internal and external resources.

  • Strong verbal communication, written communication (writing and editing), organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Comfort with learning new technology.

  • Experience with Workiva.

  • Ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders and executives and leaders across the enterprise.

  • General insurance industry knowledge.

  • Strong organizational understanding.

  • Strong understanding of the Travelers brand.

  • General knowledge of company products and marketing strategies.

  • General knowledge of digital design, flow and site organization.

  • Experience in identifying and consulting with customer/client base on appropriate communication/content approaches.

  • Experience communicating with an investor audience.

  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting standards and best practices.

  • Experience working within a Legal Services environment.

  • Law degree beneficial.

What is a Must Have?

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum of 4 years of related content development / written communications experience.
