Job Description

Job Summary:

This position exists to perform regularly scheduled general maintenance duties and specially assigned maintenance and repair activities to ensure a clean, safe, accessible and well-groomed college campus.

Job Duties:

  • Clean and maintain the college buildings and grounds as directed and required by the supervisor to ensure a clean, safe, accessible and well-groomed college campus.

  • Perform all other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Building Maintenance Foreman and Physical Plant Director.

  • Lock all doors to ensure the college is closed and secured. Turn off all lights as necessary. Turn off equipment as instructed. Report suspicious persons or activities to Security or the Supervisor.

  • Comply with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and participate in mandatory training, testing and certification. Comply with departmental safety policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.

  • Working knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in repair and maintenance work.

  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited direction.

  • Ability to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions.

  • Ability to work above the ground level such as on ladders and scaffolding.

  • Must have physical ability to:

  • move and transport heavy objects of 50 lbs. or more

  • ascend/descend various heights

  • maintain stationary positions

  • move through building regularly

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to make minor repairs to and operate simple maintenance equipment.

  • Ability to keep simple records.

  • Ability to think quickly and react in the event of an emergency.

  • Basic understanding and knowledge to navigate online web browsers, email, and Microsoft Office computer programs.
