This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners.

As the Systems Supervisor you will serve as a leader with a focus on providing strategic direction and guidance at an enterprise-wide level. This position will provide direct day-to-day supervision and mentoring of IT staff, working with Minnesota IT Services’ management to define the administration and maintenance for Data Center services.

The Systems Supervisor will provide technology leadership in the operation of MNIT’s Data Center environments and is responsible for the organization, implementation, administration and maintenance of Minnesota IT Data Center services and related functional strategies. This role is essential for driving innovation, fostering standardization, and ultimately contributing to the overall success and effectiveness of the Executive Branch's technology landscape.

This position requires an employee to be onsite at the work location 1-2 days per week.

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependenciesthe Twin Cities Metropolitan Area, Minnesota.

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of experience in Information Technology and/or Data Center Facilities.

Experience must include:

  • Two (2) years of lead work or supervisory experience

  • Extensive experience leading and managing large-scale technology projects, ensuring plans detail deliverables and resource needs.

  • Strong ability to set clearly defined, attainable expectations to team members and provide mentoring and coaching.

  • Advanced problem-solving abilities sufficient to analyze situations and make decisions based upon research, understanding impact of risks, and negotiation with other individuals and groups.

  • Planning, organizing, and developing IT security and facility security system technologies including security standards.

  • Ability to maintain knowledge of department and institution procedures and policies, standards development, as well as local, state, and federal laws, regulations, guidelines and business and industry standards.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information technology, engineering, business administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and data center experience

  • Knowledge of State of Minnesota procurement systems, rules, laws, and practices sufficient to ensure division procurement practices are consistent with rules and laws.

  • Proficient in creating strategic technology and data management roadmaps and establishing priorities within intricate and continuously evolving system environments.

  • Ability to translate intricate technical matters into accessible language, including the ability to discern and articulate the business significance and consequences of diverse technical solutions to MNIT leadership and business stakeholders, facilitating informed decision-making.

  • Experience and proven success identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement to configurations, procedures and processes to enable greater availability, capability and efficiency.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Thorough understanding of, data center infrastructure, (generators, uninterruptible power supplies, electrical systems, HVAC, fire systems, leak detection systems, monitoring and alerting systems.

  • Demonstrated experience with implementing information security regulations including IRS, CJIS, PCI, HIPAA, FERPA.
