The Maxis Data Specialist position exists primarily to:

  • Generate complex data from MAXIS, which provides the basis for cash assistance budget forecasts and fiscal analysis of the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

  • Ensure that Minnesota meets SNAP federal reporting requirements for the submission of eligibility, claims, and other data to the federal Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) in the Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Determining system objectives for Minnesota’s MAXIS Data Reporting Model in the DHS Data Warehouse, which produces aggregate eligibility and payment data as well as individual case and person data on all programs administered by DHS whose eligibility is housed in MAXIS.

  • Functioning as the lead systems designer, technical administrator, and technical expert on Minnesota’s MAXIS Data Reporting Model, which generates aggregate and individual level enrollment and payments data for all DHS administered programs whose eligibility is housed in MAXIS.

  • Ensuring that that federal SNAP data collection and audit requirements are timely and accurately met, and that federally mandated SNAP waiver requirements can be calculated and monitored to ensure continued compliance within Minnesota’s combined TANF and food assistance program.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of professional experience working directly with the MAXIS eligibility system or similar eligibility system. Experience to include at least two (2) of the following:

  • Experience using the MAXIS eligibility system or similar system.

  • Experience extracting data using SAS and/or SQL in a variety of applications.

  • Experience in using spreadsheet software such as Excel in compiling, summarizing, and presenting data.

  • Experience in developing and implementing system and data collection objectives, specifications, and methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience extracting data from the DHS Data Warehouse.

  • Experience using computer programming languages, (e.g. Teradata SQL, JCL, BTEQ, Programmer’s File Editor, Queryman, FTP, SPF, IOF, Syncsort, DMPCY, SAS, Excel) and MVS system architecture.

  • Detailed understanding of federal SNAP regulations and data.

  • Experience using basic statistical analysis and sampling techniques.

  • Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
