Modality: In-Person Dates/Time: M,W,F 11:35am-1:55pm, Fall Semester 9/3/2024-12/18/2024 Pre-Designed Course # of Credits: 3 Description of Course/s: Painting I: This course is designed to introduce students to fundamental concepts in oil and/or acrylic painting. Historical and contemporary approaches to painting will be addressed. Non-art majors can also succeed in this course. Painting II: This course empowers students to elevate their understanding of fundamental concepts in oil and acrylic painting, enabling them to study and apply advanced techniques, ultimately attaining a higher level of conceptualization in design. Advanced Painting: This advanced level course aims to help students develop their unique artistic voice by exploring diverse painting techniques and surfaces. Students will delve into various subject matters, employing creative and unconventional approaches for self-expression. Significant emphasis will be placed on honing skills in formal and iconographic analysis. Student learning will be primarily assessed through the development and critique of their artistic portfolios. Program/College: Art Studio and Art Education majors will also spend time learning traditional and current techniques and theories, as well as a solid background in global art history. Students develop a discerning eye for visual languages and complex themes. Our world-class faculty use their decades of experience to nurture student success from the first day of class all the way to graduation- and beyond. CSP gives students the opportunity to dive into any discipline, including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, photography, and even web design. CSP features high quality facilities for ceramics, photography, digital art, printmaking, sculpture, as well as painting and drawing. Studio Art majors have convenient and free access to those facilities during and outside of classes. The Art Education program prepares students for a career in teaching K-12 art. Studio Art Program at Concordia University helps students to build an impressive professional art portfolio. Throughout their program and upon completion, students are given the privilege of presenting their work through preplanned solo exhibitions in the H. Williams Teaching Gallery. Our graduates excel in every artistic field from animation to graphic design and painting. Those who go on to earn their graduate degree in Fine Arts are also qualified to teach at a college level. Course Instruction Responsibilities: Facilitate quality student learning through teaching assigned courses. Increase student course engagement by providing a positive and regular presence within the course (at least four days per week for online courses) by engaging students through course activities and ongoing availability to provide student support. Provide substantive and timely feedback on course assessments, following academic unit and university guidelines, within the Learning Management System, typically within five business days of the assessments' due dates. Respond to student inquiries typically within 24 hours during business days unless otherwise specified at the college level (48 hours on weekends, with closer monitoring if assignments are due uring the weekend or on Monday). Work collaboratively in a supportive academic environment, partnering with academic advising, career development, and the academic team to ensure each student has the resources they need to succeed. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Follow the university and academic unit's policies and procedures. Qualifications: Education Required: Completion of BFA in Studio Art from an accredited institution, plus a minimum of 3 years of professional-level accomplishments in painting. Education Preferred: Completion of an MFA in Painting or Studio Art is ideal. Persons with an MA or a BFA plus professional achievement that provides a depth of knowledge in the field to include evidence of a professional accomplishment in painting may be considered. Experience Required: Experience as a practicing artist in painting with a minimum of one or more years of college-level teaching experience. Applicants should be able to showcase a portfolio of work. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a motivation to serve students from all backgrounds and educational experiences, demonstrate an ability and motivation to work with diverse populations in a professional and personable manner, and anticipate and respond to new trends in the discipline with new curriculum and teaching practices.
