CSP offers two History classes on-site at Concordia Academy: HIS231 USA to 1877 during the fall 2024 semester, and HIS233 USA since 1877 during the spring 2025 semester. The university prefers one candidate to teach both offerings, as possible. Course Description: HIS 231 USA to 1877 Fall Semester:9/3/2024 to 12/18/2024 Dates/Times: Tuesdays & Thursdays 7:45am-9:03am This survey course traces American history from colonial times through Reconstruction. The course emphasizes a broad range of topics including: colonial settlement patterns, the growth of slavery, the Revolution, the development of nationalism, the Age of Jackson, Westward expansion, sectionalism, and the Civil War and Reconstruction. HIS 233 USA since 1877 Spring Semester: 1/6/2025 to 4/30/2025 Dates/Times: Tuesdays & Thursdays 7:45am-9:03am This survey course traces American history from Reconstruction to the present time. The course will begin by focusing on the nation's emergence as a world power and its failure to keep the promises it made in the 13th & 15th amendments. Students will also examine: America's various reform movements, World War I, the Roaring Twenties, the Depression and New Deal, World War II, the Cold War, Civil Rights, Vietnam, the 1960s counterculture, Watergate, the oil and Iran hostage crises, the Reagan revolution, the Gulf War, the Clinton years, the 2000 election and the 9/11 attacks. Course Modality: PSEO On-Site at Concordia Academy, Face-to-Face Pre-Written Course: Yes Total Compensation: $1,000 per Credit # of Credits: 3 per Course Program/College: School of Continuing Studies, PSEO The study of History at Concordia University and Concordia Academy is not only about the past - it is also about the present and the future. A student in this program will learn to think critically about change over time and how contemporary society has been shaped by all those who came before. Course Instruction Responsibilities: Guide students on including appropriate content (activities, artifacts, evidence) for the candidate's digital portfolio, demonstrating that required competencies in the Minnesota Administrator Rule have been successfully met. Review and, if necessary, guide students based on weekly internship experience logs received from candidates. Provide the Site Mentor with a copy of the Summative Evaluation Form to be completed and returned to the University Supervisor at the end of the internship experience. Guide students in completing the internship reflection. Collect and review the log reflecting 320 hours of internship experiences to meet the requirements outlined in Minnesota Administrator Rule 3512. Be familiar with the content and guidelines outlined in the Internship Experience/Situational Observation Internship Resource Website. Attend University Supervisor meetings scheduled by the Education Leadership Program. Qualifications: Education Required: Completion of MA in History from an accredited institution, plus professional achievement that provides a depth of knowledge in the field. Education Preferred: Completion of Terminal Degree in History or related field, plus professional achievement that provides a depth of kn wledge in the field. Experience Required: Experience in a related industry with a minimum of one or more years of teaching experience. Candidates must demonstrate a motivation to serve students from all backgrounds and educational experiences, demonstrate an ability and motivation to work with diverse populations in a professional and personable manner, demonstrate an ability to anticipate and respond to new trends in the discipline with new curriculum and teaching practices. Experience Preferred: Teaching high school level students.
