As the Communications Coordinator, you will support the agency's mission by providing communications expertise and coordination across the agency. The incumbent helps ensure transparency in the agency’s efforts to improve equity in service delivery and accountability to the people of Minnesota. Primarily, the incumbent serves as the point person for collection, assessment, and distribution of internal and external news agencywide. This includes serving as editor for DHS Today, the agency's official news source for more than 6,000 employees statewide; coordinating with teammates to ensure alignment with external communications; and performing a broad range of communications activities to help achieve agency objectives.

Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Serves as editor for DHS Today, the agency's official employee communications mechanism, and the Managers’ Memo, a monthly communication for agency managers.

  • Responsible for other employee communications projects.

  • Works with media team on externalcommunicationsprojects and events.

  • Develops and oversees development of presentations, briefings, and other materials for executive leadership events and public outreach.

  • Serves as communications liaison for business continuity planning efforts.

  • Supports agency emergency response.

  • Provides foundational communications support that advance the team’s core activities.

Minimum Qualifications

To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month, day and year for each job held.

Two (2) years of professional experience working in the Communications field demonstrating the following:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write using AP style and plain language.

  • Understanding of journalistic and public relations practices.

  • Aptitude for using technology to produce communications products, i.e. PowerPoint, Gov.Delivery, content management systems.

*A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, English or another related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience*

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in communications for large organizations.

  • Basic photography skills.

  • Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
