Help play an important role in the health of Minnesotans by becoming the Cancer Planning and Partnerships Program Supervisor as a Health Program Representative Principal. This position will oversee and provide supervision for Minnesota’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/cancer/compcancer/index.html) , which is the umbrella program encompassing cancer-related work across the agency and the state; the Cancer Screening Quality Improvement (CSQI) Program (https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/cancer/csqi/about.html) ; and Sage/ CSQI Clinical Services (https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/cancer/sage/about/index.html) .

This position leads the development and maintenance of the Minnesota Cancer Alliance (MCA), which is external to MDH, and the Cancer Leadership Team, which is internal to MDH and develops, updates, implements, and evaluates the MCA statewide strategic plan for cancer control.

Responsibilities of the role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and supervision for the work of the Cancer Planning and Partnerships Staff.

  • Coordinate MCA strategic plan and related initiates including evaluating cancer plan activities, outputs, and outcomes.

  • Build and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support cancer plan objectives.

  • Oversee the application and reporting processes for the National Cancer Control Program and Colorectal Cancer Control Programs.

Work may be conducted in-person in St. Paul, or as telework for applicants who reside in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota, or South Dakota, based on the business needs of the unit and supervisor discretion. Position location will be determined by the top candidate and will be based out of the closest Minnesota Department of Health office location. Occasional travel to the St. Paul office location will be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) years’ experience in a comprehensive public health program in the field of cancer control. Experience to include all of the following:

  • Project management.

  • Strategic planning and budgeting.

  • Designing, implementing, and evaluating community-based health promotion programs.

A degree in public health, public policy, social work, psychology, or related program may count towards professional experience as follows:

  • Bachelor’s = 12 months

  • Master’s = 18 months

  • Doctoral = 24 months

Abilities, skills, and knowledge to be assessed at interview:

  • Knowledge of various scientific literature related to cancer control, chronic disease risk factors and chronic disease health disparities from a public health perspective.

  • Written and verbal communication skill sufficient to present and disseminate information in a clear manner and provide professional consultation.

  • Ability to evaluate programmatic activities sufficient to develop a program evaluation plan and collect necessary reporting data.

  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to manage conflict in a collaborative way reaching mutually acceptable positive solutions.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to health equity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading strategic planning and visioning with broad range of stakeholders and program partners including local, state and national government agencies; health providers, public health officials and community health agencies; tribes, employers, and not-profit organizations.

  • Experience supervising and evaluating the work of staff to prioritize and to coordinate activities.

  • Experience with state and federal budgetary requirements and grant proposals.

  • Experience participating in legislative processes.

  • Experience leading community-based health promotion and education engagement.

  • Experience implementing policies and procedures of a statewide comprehensive cancer program.

  • Designing, implementing, and evaluating reports, policy, systems and environmental change approaches as they relate to accomplishing objectives of MDH.

  • Experience integrating health equity principles in strategy work.

Additional Requirements

  • Must successfully pass a background and reference check.

  • This employment does not require a valid driver's license, but it does demand occasional travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
