The Office is currently seeking an Assistant Attorney GeneralAssistant Attorney General in the Residential Utilities DivisionResidential Utilities Division of the Office. The attorney’s primary caseload will involve advocating for residential and small business utility customers. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly committed and collaborative team that makes a difference in the everyday lives of Minnesotans.
As an Assistant Attorney General, you will work alongside analysts to advocate for policies that will improve the lives of Minnesota’s residential and small business ratepayers receiving electric, gas, and landline telephone service. The division primarily appears before the Public Utilities Commission and the Office of Administrative Hearings. The position may also provide opportunities to appear before Minnesota’s appellate courts and to participate in formal and informal stakeholder groups addressing areas of emerging public utility policy.
This position is eligible for hybrid work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a law school accredited by the ABA and licensed to practice in the State of Minnesota or ability to obtain licensure within 90 days of hire
An interest in public utilities, energy, or telecom law
Outstanding oral and written communication skills (a writing sample of up to five pages is required to be attached to a cover letter)
Ability to:
Multi-task by managing an active caseload and meeting tight deadlines
Work in an inclusive, creative, and collaborative work environment
Contribute positively to a team and interact successfully with co-workers, state and federal law enforcement colleagues, and members of the public
Travel throughout the state with possible out-of-state travel as required

To be considered at the S2 level, candidates must have at least 6 years of directly related experience. To be considered at the S3 level, candidates must have at least 12 years of directly related experience.

Public utilities, energy, or telecom experience
Knowledge/experience in accounting, finance, economics, and/or engineering
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move and transport such articles as files, laptop computer and resource materials weighing up to 20 pounds
