St. Louis, MO / Drug Substance Division - The Drug Substance Division is one of the five divisions that make up the Pharma Services Group. We specialize in both small and large molecule development and commercial drug substance services. This allows us to serve the needs of Small/Emerging, Mid-Sized, and Large Pharma sectors globally.

Position Summary:

Support continuous improvement practices to achieve success within the department. Monitor and plant operations and facilities personnel, delegate responsibilities to evenly and consistently distribute the work load to troubleshoot and repair equipment breakdowns and perform preventative maintenance tasks. Generate SAP work orders to document and prioritise repair activities. Provide expertise to the plant personnel to identify deficiencies in a proactive manner to prevent unnecessary breakdowns. Create and modify plant maintenance procedures and PMs to provide optimum maintenance coverage and extended equipment life. Have proficiency with computer-based programs and computerized maintenance management systems related to plant operations, training systems, documentation systems, pay, benefits and communications. Generate and supervise personnel pay and vacation schedules and document performance reviews. Provide facilities representation in company meetings and participate in evaluations of engineering projects and plant system modifications. Provide facilities systems expertise and documentation during regulatory inspections, internal and external. Prioritize maintenance activities to prevent unsafe working conditions and minimize critical systems downtime. Connect with vendors and contractors to order replacement parts and schedule maintenance activities. Enforce strict adherence to safety, environmental, and GMP practices in day-to-day operations with emphasis on quality and compliance. Communicate with responsible teams to ensure instructions are clear and understood. Provide updates to external departments on objects or projects which involve their specific operations. Be proficient with multi-tasking varying responsibilities simultaneously. Willing and able to make critical decisions regarding facilities operations with limited time for evaluation while maintaining a GMP environment.

Assures timely completion of Facilities PM, and complainant record keeping. Assures uninterrupted operation of the Site utilities and associated systems. Responsible for successful execution and implementation of Facilities related modifications. Supervises the Facilities team to ensure correct mechanical & electrical breakdowns following strict product safety & quality standards. Must have the ability & initiative to lead & participate in plant problem-solving teams, ability to apply problem-solving techniques, communicate effectively, demonstrate leadership & plan optimally. Interested individuals will contribute to a fast paced, multifaceted environment. Work well in a team-based environment with limited supervision, oversight, and be available on weekends and holidays as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Facilities Team:

  • Coordinate preventative maintenance work flow through work orders planning and process work to completion. Organize and implement daily work schedules, prioritize, and dispatch personnel to critical tasks. Schedule work around production activities to minimize schedule impact.

  • Operates within the budget for Facilities. Control spend within approved budget. Provide input to the Manager to strategically plan for the next 5-10 years of site operations.

  • Create and modify PM’s and maintenance procedures to adapt to changing environment. Revise documentation, review and approve revisions of SOP’s, Events, and Deviations. Attend Cat Meeting for approval of additions and changes to SAP documentation.

  • Attend meetings with other departments to plan and schedule work. Coordinate maintenance activities around production schedules while ensuring GMP compliance. Respond to internal communications to provide technical and mechanical assistance.

  • Maintain training schedules and reports, review document revisions. Monitor PM & WO completion and document on-time completion. Generate departmental correspondence to communicate critical changes to daily routine and non -routine activities.

  • Perform daily walkthroughs of Facilities spaces and generate work notifications to correct noted discrepancies. Monitor space cleanliness and organization to maintain inspection readiness and safe working conditions.

  • Schedule contractors for repairs and contact vendors for ordering of spare and replacement parts. Arrange training for contractors and schedule escorts for vendors working in restricted areas.

  • Conduct in the field, follow-up reviews of PM & WOs to verify that responsible mechanics are performing the tasks meet the required expectations.

  • Work with QA Training for access reports for re-training periods & remove access if needed.

  • Coordinate with EH&S site wide drills (fire, tornado, etc.)

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Qualified applicants will have 5-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

  • 5-10 years (Ten 12-month periods) maintenance related experience, including 2500 hours of on-the-job experience.

  • Background in industrial, mechanical, and computer systems

  • Instruct team using blueprints or verbal instructions.

  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to lead and develop a collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationship with internal customers and subordinates.

  • Experience in GMP site practices.

  • Must have knowledge and technical skill (basic electrical troubleshooting, basic PLC related to major utilities)

  • Preferred experienced with Maintenance Systems (SAP), digital literacy, & new technologies in predictive maintenance

  • Support commitment to continuous improvement programs through active participation in plant productivity programs.

  • Comply and actively participate in all safety and environmental policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Perform area housekeeping duties.
