Jacobs Structural Engineer - Federal Buildings in St. Louis, Missouri

We are seeking a Structural Engineer (Buildings) to join our St. Louis or Kansas City office as part of Jacobs’ Federal & Environmental Solutions business unit. Collaborating with our diverse team of architects and engineers, you’ll design structural systems for a variety of building types including airports, government facilities, mission critical facilities, laboratories, and manufacturing facilities. Design criteria may include progressive collapse, blast, seismic retrofit, and other unique loading requirements (e.g., simulator, vehicle, thermal gradient).

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated professional with at least 10 years of progressive structural engineering experience. Key responsibilities of the role are:

• Provide complete design solutions from concept to final design and construction.

• Lead and mentor other structural engineers through project execution.

• Design and analyze structures to meet project-specific and code requirements utilizing finite element analysis and hand calculations.

• Develop clear and comprehensive calculations, basis of design documents, drawings, and specifications.

• Perform construction administration activities including review of submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings; construction walkthroughs; and field fixes.

• Coordinate and communicate design solutions with clients and other engineering disciplines - including presentations, reports, studies, design review meetings, and training.

• Assist with project planning, cost estimating, proposals, and project management.

  • Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis 

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license 

  • At least 10 years relevant professional experience for buildings-related design projects

  • Federal including DoD, Federal Civilian and/or Defense Contractor project experience

  • Experience working in a multi-discipline environment 

  • Construction support services for building projects 

  • Experience with BIM 360 and Revit

  • Proficiency in structural finite element analysis software (e.g., ETABS, RISA, RAM)

  • Knowledge of building codes & standards (International Building Code, ASCE 7, UFC’s etc.)

  • Proactive attitude of taking independent initiative, exhibiting creative problem-solving, eagerness to learn, while remaining dedicated to teamwork

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • United States Citizenship

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Structural Engineer (S.E.) license

  • Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior staff

  • Interest in utilizing graphical programming and scripting (e.g. Dynamo, Grasshopper, Python, etc.)

  • Experience with Navisworks and Bluebeam

  • United States Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain
