Assistant Corporate Counsel (Regulatory) (ZA2141)

About The Position

Ameren Services Company is seeking an experienced regulatory attorney to assist Ameren regulated subsidiaries in matters concerning utility regulation, primarily state regulatory matters in Illinois. This position requires the ability to work relatively independently and to offer competent counsel in matters concerning utility regulation. The person selected will join a team that works together to address a high volume of legal and regulatory matters and is dedicated to achieving successful resolutions to these matters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Represent Ameren subsidiaries in administrative dockets before the Illinois Commerce Commission ("ICC") and other state and federal administrative agencies;

  • Support internal clients concerning cases pending before the ICC and other state and federal agencies;

  • Counsel clients concerning legal matters affecting regulated utility operations in Illinois and surrounding jurisdictions;

  • Supervise and manage outside consultants and attorneys;

  • Represent Ameren subsidiaries in negotiated proceedings;

  • Represent Ameren subsidiaries in matters concerning local government ordinances and regulations; and

  • Support Ameren subsidiaries in assessing legal risks concerning proposed or pending legislation or regulations

Qualifications

Juris Doctorate Degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school required. Three or more years of experience in litigation or state utility regulatory advocacy in private practice, corporate legal department or related government agency required. Experience related to government and administrative matters is preferred. Candidate must be admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction. Licensure in Illinois and Missouri preferred, and successful candidate will be required to hold a general license to practice in both states, or alternatively, obtain an in-house certificate authorizing practice on behalf of Ameren and its subsidiaries.

Technical career path level and salary depends upon applicant’s credentials. Open to all levels

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Strong organizational, time management, oral advocacy and written communication skills. The Candidate must be proficient and possess diligence to advance matters including docketed proceedings independently, as well as strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse team. Experience in handling accounting matters related to regulation and rates, rate cases generally, rate design matters, energy efficiency dockets, and/or transmission siting proceedings would be valued. The Candidate should demonstrate agility and organizational skills to manage numerous and sometimes competing responsibilities of varying urgency and criticality within a fast-paced work environment. Proficiency in legal research, Lexis or Westlaw and other applicable research services and the following Ameren competencies: Think Customer, Inspire and Engage, Foster Innovation, Drive Results, Champion Learning, Build Trust, and Be Strategic
