Cabela's Banquet Captain - White River Conference Center in Springfield, United States

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Banquet Captain ensures proper event set up, associate supervision and execution of service through effective associate communication achieving guest satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Thorough understanding of all position responsibilities.

  • Assists with on-boarding, staff orientation, handbook training, and service training.

  • Previews daily banquet event orders.

  • Assigns side work duties and server floor chart.

  • Plans the serving details and orchestrates its completion in a timely manner.

  • Supervises leads, servers, bartenders, food runners, and house persons, checking accuracy and adherence to brand standards.

  • Actively participates in the setup, service and break down of functions.

  • Ensures proper daily, weekly and end of month accounting procedures are met.

  • Opens and closes the conference center as needed.

  • Understands security, safety, emergency and energy conservation procedures.

  • Inspects each function prior to the event, ensuring guest requests are fulfilled and service standards are met.

  • Conducts pre and post shift meetings.

  • Completes daily paperwork duties to include banquet checks, sales summary, computer reports, closing reports, punch detail, overtime warnings, and captain reports.

  • Meets with meeting planners prior to, during and at the conclusion of the event to discuss details, meeting last minute requests and gathering feedback.

  • Supervises up to 30+ servers, house persons, lead/trainers and bartenders.

  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Missouri class E designated driver's license and a safe driving record is required.

  • Computer Skills – Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office Applications. The ability to work well with a team, to prioritize, a sense of urgency and a real concern for guest satisfaction.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT :

  • Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
