Bon Secours Mercy Health Registered Nurse (RN) - Radiation Oncology - Springfield Cancer Center in Springfield, Ohio

The Radiation Oncology RN provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing radiation therapy for cancer treatment. You will work closely with oncologists, radiation therapists, and other healthcare team members to deliver high-quality patient care, support patients through their treatment journey, and ensure optimal outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assessing and monitoring patients before, during, and after radiation therapy sessions.

  2. Administering radiation therapy safely and accurately according to treatment plans.

  3. Educating patients and their families about radiation therapy procedures, potential side effects, and self-care measures.

  4. Providing emotional support and managing the psychological impact of cancer treatment on patients.

  5. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to develop individualized care plans for patients.

  6. Monitoring and managing side effects of radiation therapy, such as skin reactions and fatigue.

  7. Administering medications, as prescribed, to manage symptoms and side effects.

  8. Ensuring patient safety and adherence to radiation safety protocols.

  9. Documenting patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in medical records.

  10. Participating in quality improvement initiatives and research projects within the radiation oncology department.

Requirements:

  1. Current registered nurse (RN) Ohio license.

  2. Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.

  3. Certification in oncology nursing (OCN) or radiation therapy nursing a plus.

  4. Prior experience in oncology nursing or radiation oncology preferred.

  5. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  7. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  8. Knowledge of radiation therapy principles and practices.

  9. Commitment to providing compassionate and patient-centered care.

  10. Willingness to stay updated on advances in oncology and radiation therapy care.
