Manheim Remarketing Inc Photographer/Videographer, Cox First Media in Springfield, Ohio
Photographers are key positions in Cox First Media's drive to be the digital news and information leader in our market. This role drives our digital storytelling, creating photos and video for our audiences on multiple platforms, channels and products, including websites and social media. They are expected to document what's happening in our community with versatility, and should be able to cover a variety of events, including breaking news, sports, features, and entertainment. They need to be nimble, flexible and fast, and be able to quickly identify, respond to and photograph breaking news or other key visual opportunities. This role should be able to work independently in news situations, and collaboratively with other staff. As part of their job, news photographers must have strong news judgment and journalistic principles. They must write accurate, clear and relevant photo captions, and may also write or contribute to news stories. Accuracy and meeting deadline are critical. The position is based in Springfield, Ohio. The Springfield News-Sun has a hybrid work environment. The Springfield News-Sun is part of Cox First Media , which also includes the Dayton Daily News and Journal-News. The person in this position may be asked to do work that focuses on one of the other brands in Cox First Media, depending on staffing and needs. Responsibilities Tell compelling stories visually with photos and videos, either as standalone digital content or in collaboration with other planned content Displays a strong sense of urgency, high energy and tenacity to get the best, most compelling visuals for digital audiences and for print Process and manage photos, videos, photo galleries and other visual products, including inputting content into the system and optimizing for digital Works in close communication with an editor, but exercises a great deal of independent judgement and action in the field, as well as independent thinking and judgement on deadline Provides accurate, complete captions for photos and video content Cover spot news with visuals and reporting from active scenes in collaboration with other staff Uses time effectively and efficiently, producing an acceptable volume of work Demonstrates understanding of visual bias and avoids it Aid other content producers in training or best practices when they must gather visuals, including from cell phones Use metrics to inform what content is created and distributed on digital channels, curating their work to best meet our audience where they are Work with other departments in Cox First Media for visuals that may help in Marketing, Audience or other promotional needs Handles other assignments as needed, showing flexibility and adaptability Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 2 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and up to 2 years' experience; or 6 years' experience in a related field. Ideally looking for at least 3 years of experience in photo and video content creation in news, journalism, communications or related field Knowledge of equipment and software programs needed to create and edit photos and video (such as Photoshop, video editing tools, etc.) Understanding and knowledge of all equipment and programs needed to execute photos and videos, including DSLR, natural, indoor and studio lighting techniques and best practices using mobile phone technology Experience with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Adobe Sketch, Sketchbook, or similar programs Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate cameras and other equipment Ability to lift up to 20 pounds Driver's license and access to reliable transportation Benefits The Company offers eligible employees the flexibility to take as much vacation with pay as they deem c
