Nexstar Media Group Weekend Anchor/Reporter in Springfield, Missouri

KOLR 10 in Springfield, MO is looking for someone authentic, dynamic, and engaging to anchor our 9 and 10pm weekend newscasts. You must be a self-starter, a good newsroom citizen, and an advocate for the target viewer.

The successful candidate will take an active role in shaping the day’s news coverage. You’ll participate in editorial meetings and work with the weekend team to craft fresh and relevant newscasts. Strong, conversational writing and copyediting skills are a must. You must be active on digital platforms to ensure we are staying on top of breaking news. You will work as a reporter/multimedia journalist three days a week. We are looking for a reporter/MMJ who wants to lead the newscasts, break stories in the market, and produce exclusive reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver newscasts and news stories accurately, clearly, and concisely.

  • Evaluate news leads and develop story ideas for the weekend.

  • Make editorial decisions for weekend newscasts.

  • Write teases and stories as needed. Copyedit scripts.

  • Use social platforms to post content and give updates throughout the evening.

  • Report three days a week. You will work with photographers and MMJ.

  • Conducts interviews with public officials and members of the public.

  • Responds to breaking news and other urgent situations as required.

  • Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.

  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Writes content for the website and other digital platforms.

  • Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites.

  • Shoot and edit video as assigned.

    Qualifications:

  • Must interact positively and productively with employees in the field and the studio.

  • Strong news judgment (knowledge of local and national current events and issues)

  • Solid vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation.

  • Strong reporting skills.

  • Understand the importance of social media.

  • Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Promotes teamwork and collaboration.

  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

    Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in communication/journalism or related degree required (equivalent years of experience may substitute for education); television reporting and/or anchoring experience required.Training/Equipment: Operate newsroom computer systems, camera, and editing equipment.Work Environment/Physical Requirements: Newsrooms can be high-stress environments with deadline pressures. Some travel may be required.
