Position Summary

Sports Program Referees help maintain and improve the quality and experience of our sports programs. BGCS offers engaging, affordable, and skill-building opportunities for youth through various sports such as basketball, baseball, volleyball, and flag-football.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to acquire a thorough knowledge of playing rules in various sports.
  • Posses a thorough knowledge of playing rules and an ability to effectively interpret these rules.
  • Dedication to high professional standards as developed by tradition and through practice. A proper attitude toward the avocation of officiating will contribute immeasurably toward the total value of our sports program.
  • Time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision making skills.
  • Promote uniformity in mechanics of officiating.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Club members in understanding the basics and fundamentals of variou sports through consistent and fair officiating.
  • Ensure observance of the spirit and letter of playing rules and ethical codes on all occasions.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge regarding the mechanics of officiating
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Percentage of Work Spent on Activity: 0-24%, 25-49%, 50-74%, 75-100%

  • Seeing:(75-100%)Must be able to see well enough to see computer and calculator screens and read documents and reports. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have 20/20 vision (with or without correction).
  • Hearing:(75-100%)Must be able to hear well enough to effectively communicate with clients, vendors, and coworkers.
  • Sitting:(0-24%)Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. Must be able to operate vehicles.
  • Standing/Walking:(75-100%)Must have the ability to move about the work site.
  • Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling:(25-49%)Must be able to stoop or kneel to pick up paper products or materials.
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing:(0-24%)Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Grasping/Feeling:(50-74%)Must be able to grasp and use computer equipment, including keyboard, mouse, and calculator. Must be able to drive.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often in a clean, non-smoking, heated and cooled office environment. The employee will also frequently be indoors or in a vehicle, but may also be outdoors with exposure to dust, pollen, and outside temperature and weather extremes associated with the region. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
