Summary

Under indirect supervision, selects, develops, edits, and writes highly specialized technical language material for publication. Ensures that all materials meet established standards of appearance and content (AP style).

Duties

  • Edits technical reports and related documents involving highly specialized, scientific documents; prepares copy for final versioning.

  • Performs research to accurately edit, prepare, and produce technical documentation; maintains appropriate databases and/or files.

  • Formats and produces complex computer-generated forms, tables, and graphs; instructs others on formatting and design methods.

  • Serves as a liaison between the market/department and authors.

  • Produces technical and scientific illustrations for presentations.

  • May maintain databases and files including those used to track version control. May type and format technical and non-technical documents such as grant proposals, articles, reports, and correspondence.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field and at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • Expertise in Microsoft Word. Advance skills in other Microsoft office products.

  • Skill in developing design and layout of materials to be published using Microsoft Word.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Database management skills.

  • Ability to evaluate and edit the content, structure, and format of a range of written material (using AP style guidelines).

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.

  • Skill in the use of technical and non-technical writing and editing resources.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
