HP Inc. Senior Counsel for HP Solutions - Leasing & Financing Specialist in Spring, Texas

Job Summary

The Legal Counsel V will support businesses within the HP Solutions global business unit of HP Inc.

HP Solutions includes the Global Payment Solutions team, which guides HP's long-term leasing and financing strategy and owns relationships with HP's finance partners for sales to both commercial and consumer customers.

Specifically, this lawyer will: support Global Payment Solutions; advise in escalations of large commercial customer pursuits (working collaboratively with HP Country Counsel as needed); support HP's business in the secondary market for refurbished devices; and provide general business legal advice to another product group within HP Solutions. The position is an individual contributor role and will report to the VP, HP Solutions AGC.

Ideally we are looking for an attorney with mid-level experience in commercial and equipment lending, including experience at a captive financing entity in a large OEM, who has interest in also providing general commercial strategic advice. Alternatively, we are open to a business legal generalist with accounting knowledge, who is committed to undertaking training, and developing expertise in the legal, commercial, and industry trends of equipment leasing and managed solutions.

Responsibilities

Legal support specific to leasing & financing may include:

  • providing legal advice and guidance on all matters pertaining to equipment leasing and financing within HP's managed solutions

  • reviewing and negotiation of non-standard legal documentation with customers, vendors, and finance partners

  • continuous updating of legal documentation;

  • advising on HP's leasing process transformation and lease desk;

  • coordination with and supervision of external attorneys, as needed; undertaking legal research and analysis as required or assigned;

  • remaining informed and knowledgeable of the equipment finance industry and of legislation and regulations in the United States, European Union, and other jurisdictions as needed;

  • help resolve disputes with customers and financing partners

  • drafting and advising on contract management and other policies

Other general responsibilities:

  • Acts as legal advisor to HP Solutions business teams and acts as a trusted advisor to the business on legal issues and legal impact of business issues;

  • Provides legal expertise in collaboration with greater HP legal team

  • Understands key stakeholder needs and develops solutions for maximum impact.

  • Communicates effectively across functions, siloes and multiple management levels, regardless of colleagues' experience with leasing;

  • Leads complex multidimensional projects or transactions by identifying and resolving highly complex legal, regulatory, and business issues requiring highly specialized knowledge and judgment.

  • plan and provide training to internal clients on designated legal topics;

  • Leads development of new ideas and methods to effectively address recurring legal issues or matters facing multiple client organizations.

  • Acts as a functional expert within area of expertise, assisting in developing strategy and setting functional policy and direction.

  • Plans and facilitates training and mentoring sessions with other team members and clients to share expertise on a variety of subtopics related to a specific legal concentration.

Education, Certification & Experience

  • Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited and nationally recognized law school

  • Active bar membership and license preferably in Texas or Washington

  • 10+ years of relevant legal experience (from a combination of law firm, government, and/or in-house experience) in solution selling

  • Ideally, experience in equipment leasing or representing a captive financing entity in a large OEM

The base pay range for this role is $173,350 to $266,800 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to US candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
