Principal Android Architect with AI Expertise

We are seeking an outstanding person for the role of Principal Android Architect with expertise in AI in the Displays Solutions Organization. This person will be principally responsible for building out an AI enabled product ecosystems based upon an Android framework and creating a multi-year strategy that will deliver differentiated experiences. As a Principal Android Architect you will need to be a strong technical leader who can provide the vision and strategy of multiple complex solutions deployed across a portfolio of products in partnership with the Product Management team.

Responsibilities

  • Define AI enabled Android based platforms, technologies, tools, and integration methodologies in partnership with 3rd party suppliers and key developmental partners in both ODM and JDM models

  • Working experience with the Android Architecture framework including API layer, Android Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) and Linux Kernel

  • Design and implement AI-enabled features and capabilities into an Android based platform.

  • Understand the business needs and product requirements; translate those needs into architectural designs and software specifications.

  • Build out architectures that are both flexible in design delivery and resilient to changes.

  • Create, prioritize, communicate, manage and execute roadmaps, project plans and commitments.

  • Define Android development platforms, technologies, tools, and integration methodologies that supports both an Agile-based software development model and a hardware enabling Waterfall-model.

  • Serve as the senior technical lead for platform development teams, supporting the technical deliverables from requirements phase through product launch and sustaining.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including Product Management and Technical Program Management to drive product direction.

  • Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize development efficiency.

  • Manage relationships with outsourced service partners and suppliers including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs; ensures that team members are effectively communicating and collaborating with outsourced resources.

  • Understanding how to develop complex, scalable, and maintainable Android applications.

  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.

Knowledge and skills

  • Proven software development experience on Android with the enablement of AI models

  • In-depth working knowledge of the Android Framework, AOSP platform architecture, and related build systems

  • Proficiency in AI technologies and their integration into Android based platforms

  • Experience with Android development from BSP enablement to AOSP customization

  • Knowledgeable of all xTS requirements with first hand experience in customization limitations

  • Experience with third-party libraries and APIs

  • Understanding of Agile principles and experienced working in tools like ADO or JIRA

  • Adhere to industry standard platform design principles, application frameworks and development processes

Qualified applicants will need

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar level of applied knowledge gained through industry experience.

  • 10+ years of leadership experience with technologies including device architecture, system architecture, software platforms, large scale deployment and related solutions that are leveraged across a large organization.

  • 10+ years solving complex problems in software/firmware on devices.

  • 10+ years of Android experience in both hardware and software

  • Experience in integrating AI solutions into Android products

  • Great communication skills to establish a vision, align executive leaders, convey complex concepts to teams with differing backgrounds, build trust and create engaging partnerships.

The base pay range for this role is $137,000 to $211,000 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to US candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
