Description Pharmacist Intern at Holy Family Hospital - Spokane, WA We are seeking a motivated first-year pharmacy student to join our Pharmacotherapy Clinic as a Pharmacy Intern. The intern will play a key role in supporting clinic operations, patient care, and pharmacy services. This position offers progressive learning opportunities, allowing the intern to develop clinical and administrative skills as they advance through pharmacy school. Key Responsibilities include: Learning Clinic Workflow: Gain a thorough understanding of the clinic's daily operations and pharmacy processes by being trained to perform front end and pharmacy technician work. Pharmaceutical Information & Patient Education: Provide accurate and timely pharmaceutical information to patients under the supervision of a clinical pharmacist including educating patients on medication adherence, potential side effects, and proper medication use. Prior Authorizations: Initiate and complete prior authorization requests for disease-modifying therapies. Communicate with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients to ensure proper medication coverage. Triage Information: Effectively triage medication and patient-related information to the appropriate personnel (e.g., pharmacy technician or clinical pharmacist). Handle routine patient inquiries and refer complex cases to clinical staff as appropriate. Clinical Practice Development: As the intern advances through pharmacy school, they will receive additional training in direct patient care. This will include assisting with patient assessments, medication management, and clinical decision-making under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist. Intern responsibilities and clinical exposure will increase progressively throughout the internship based on the intern's academic standing and competency. By the third or fourth year, the intern will have the opportunity to engage in more advanced clinical functions, including patient consultations, medication therapy management (MTM), and assisting with chronic disease management. Projects: Participate in occasional clinical or administrative projects, such as medication reviews, quality improvement initiatives, or research. Required Qualifications: Current enrollment in a college of pharmacy accredited by the board of pharmacy or graduate of such college of pharmacy. Washington Pharmacist License upon hire. Or Washington Pharmacist Intern Registration upon hire. Immunization Certification upon hire. Preferred Qualifications: A first-year student in an accredited pharmacy program. Strong interest in ambulatory pharmacy and patient care. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical setting and adapt to changing needs.
