Lydig Construction, Inc. Payroll Accountant in Spokane, Washington

Summary

As a Payroll Accountant, you will assist with the execution of payroll functions and ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees, including those on construction projects. The role also involves ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, as well as collective bargaining agreements. Responsibilities

  • Payroll Processing:

  • Process weekly payroll, ensuring timely and accurate payments to employees.

  • Manage timecards within the web portal timecard system and collaborate with supervisors to ensure all employee timecards are completed and approved.

  • Manage all employees’ new hire and payroll updates in the accounting system, including tax withholding changes, direct deposit setup, and deductions.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and reporting.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all collective bargaining agreements to ensure accurate payroll for union employees.

  • Process certified payroll in accordance with prevailing wage laws (state and federal).

  • Generate payroll reports for internal and external purposes, including certified payroll reports for government projects.

  • Assist with year-end payroll processes, including W-2 preparation and distribution.

  • Payroll-Related Accounting:

  • Manage employee benefits deductions, garnishments, and contributions to retirement plans or health savings accounts.

  • Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Assist with preparing payroll journal entries and financial reports.

  • Collaborate with the accounts payable team as needed for vendor payments and reimbursements related to payroll functions.

  • Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the management of the purchase order system as it relates to payroll expenditures.

  • Provide support for the accounting team with any special projects or audits.

  • Assist with other accounting projects and duties as assigned.

    Qualifications Education / Experience

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required, Bachelor’s Degree or college courses in accounting is preferred.

  • 2 to 3 years of accounting experience is required, General Contracting, Construction Management, or Subcontractor industry experience preferred.

  • Current Payroll experience preferred.

  • Understanding of prevailing wage laws (state and federal) preferred.

  • Experience with payroll software (e.g., Viewpoint Vista or other construction payroll/accounting software) is a plus.

  • Must be proficient in Excel.

    Skills / Abilities

  • Must have a strong work ethic.

  • Must be able to establish and maintain rapport with staff.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, payroll and basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, and attention to detail are required. Must be well organized and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

    Other Requirements

  • Excellent attendance is required.

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment checks including: Drug Screen and Criminal Background check.

    The salary range for this position is between $55,000 and $65,000 per annum, based on experience and qualifications. Benefits:
