Responsibilities
Panasonic Energy of North America (PENA) is seeking ambitious engineering interns to join the world’s largest lithium ion battery initiative. With superior battery designs and the fastest manufacturing lines in the world, Panasonic is producing millions of batteries per day at the Gigafactory to support Tesla’s electric vehicle and energy storage businesses. At PENA, engineering interns quickly become experts in the fundamentals of lithium-ion cell technology and work to integrate that understanding with high speed, automated manufacturing methods to produce the highest performance and highest quality lithium ion batteries.
Internship Details:
The program will be a fulltime paid summer internship working for Panasonic at the Gigafactory
The program will be 12 weeks in length, and is planned to occur between Monday, May 19th and Friday, August 8th . This date range is subject to change
Must be able to attend the entirety of the internship
Housing allowance provided
Program Requirements:
The program will be a fulltime paid summer internship working for Panasonic Energy of North America onsite at the Gigafactory
The program will be 12 weeks in length, and is planned to occur between Monday, May 20th and Friday, August 9th. This date range is subject to change
Must attend entirety of internship from the indicated start and end date noted above
Minimum 3.2 GPA
Must have completed a minimum of 2 years at an accredited university
Essential Duties:
Participate in Programming, installing, and troubleshooting PLC/Vision systems such as Mitsubishi, Keyence and Omron within the manufacturing processes
Assist with design and programming HMI and communication network systems
Conducts design and testing work for existing production lines to improve cell manufacturing process on safety, quality and productivity.
Analyzes and evaluates machine and test data.
Provides engineering support to production teams to resolve manufacturing process issues.
Works closely with other team members to increase understanding of failure modes and improve performance of cell manufacturing equipment.
Applies principles and knowledge of engineering to solve manufacturing problems.

What You'll Bring:
Education:
Completion of at least two years of full-time enrollment (minimum 12 credit hours per semester) in a Bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
Preferred: Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Essential Qualifications:

Must be currently enrolled as a fulltime student at an accredited four-year college or university
GPA of 3.2 or higher
Demonstrated experience solving difficult hands-on engineering problems with an ability to clearly articulate technical detail and thought process
Familiarity with basic lithium-ion battery chemistry
Good understanding of basic manufacturing principles
Strong problem-solving skills
Strong organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to write and communicate technical information clearly and concisely
Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
Preferred Qualifications:
GPA of 3.2 or higher
Hands-on experience through project teams or previous jobs
Knowledge in programmable platforms, PLC, and embedded controls using programming languages
A desire to create a sustainable future through energy storage, renewable energy, and electric vehicles
