Robert Half Junior Staff Accountant in South San Francisco, California
Description
We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Junior Staff Accountant to assist with budgeting and financial reporting for an education client based in South San Francisco. This is a 6-month contract role supporting the finance team with budget preparation, variance analysis, and other day-to-day accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will possess foundational accounting knowledge, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports in collaboration with the finance and operations teams.
Perform variance analysis between actuals and budget, identifying discrepancies and preparing explanations for management.
Process and reconcile accounting transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
Support month-end and quarter-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
Maintain consistent and accurate records of financial data for reporting and auditing purposes.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to compile financial information and improve reporting processes.
Respond to inquiries from management regarding financial results, special projects, and general accounting issues.
Provide administrative and reporting support during budget meetings and presentations.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
1-3 years of accounting or financial analysis experience, preferably in budgeting or educational institutions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis tools are a must).
Experience with accounting software; knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, NetSuite) is a plus.
Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and basic financial management practices.
Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work effectively with large datasets.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain numbers and data clearly.
Ability to work well in a team environment and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, project-focused role.
