We are seeking an  Animal Care Technician I to join our  Insourcing Solutions  team located in  South San Francisco, CA.

  

As the * Animal Care Technician I* , you will work with our research animals to ensure they are well cared for.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Monitor daily animal health and welfare when performing daily animal health observations.

  • Perform animal husbandry duties to maintain the quality and health of research animals, to include perform daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.

  • Perform cage wash duties and sanitation.

  • Maintain accurate records of room logs, health case logs, animal breeding, and support areas as required by Institute and facility.

  • Perform rodent restraint, handling, and technical manipulation as assigned by the on-site Supervisor or facility veterinarian, to include health case treatments, identification, genotyping, health surveillance sampling, and euthanasia.

  • Receive, inspect, and put away incoming animal shipments and supplies.

  • Operate equipment and use supplies according to guidelines.

  • Perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.

  • May provide study support on non-invasive techniques including, but not limited to, animal fasting, body weight, food and water measurement, mating, plug check, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Animal Care Technician I position:

  • High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field preferred.

  • Minimum of one year related laboratory animal experience is required.

  • AALAS certification at the ALAT level/CALAS preferred

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

The pay for this position is $20-24/hour USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications and locations. Schedule: Monday through Friday 7AM-3:30PM. Rotating weekends and holidays as needed.
